Ok, does anyone know where I can find a good quality Lavender Orpington Rooster? I have a rooster and 4 hens that I was wanting to raise chicks from. I am fine with the girls, but not as much with him. I culled 6 roos and he was the one that I chose to keep. He has real good build and type, and a very good dsipositon. But, as he is aging he is getting yellow leakage on his back and neck. It's not horrible, but more than I would like. I just don't know where to begin looking to find a great one. I don't want to start over from eggs again or anything like that. I had an offer on here for one a couple of months ago, but at the time he didn't have the yellow leakage. He is 9 months old. If I can't find a good replacement I will keep him because the rest of him is good.

I don't have a lav rooster for you, unfortunately. Is it possible that the yellow is sun damage and not genetics. I hear it's pretty common, especially around here. That would explain why it recently cropped up.

I know it's a little early, but yesterday I started collecting eggs for the NYD hatch along.
I am collecting RIR's, Dominique, White Faced Spanish, BY Bantams, FBC Marans, and the Seramas.
I will also use the Lav Orps and the Welsummers IF they decide to lay before the 11th.

I have never kept eggs for 15 days, 10 days is the most I have ever tried.
But with laying so sporadic this year, I need all the eggs that stand a decent chance.
Besides when hens collect eggs they will sometimes collect till they get 20 to 25 eggs.

I tried to find some eggs to buy but have not found anything I wanted.
I would like some eggs from Daph's Orpingtons, if anyone has some of her chicks that are laying.
If you have some please PM me.

At this point that is all that I would actually spend money on.

If there's any out there, I'd like to know their secret. I have seen an orp egg in soooo loooong! It was February before they really started laying again last year.

I really hope you find some, they are so sweet. I'm considering adding Imported Buff Orpingtons. And I swore I wasn't going to add anything else, ever.

It may take me longer because I may be like her children. I pick them all up and talk to them. At 46, my kids have started their own lives, and I need to "mother" something. I have been known to tuck one under my arm and carry them to the mailbox forgetting they are even there. But at this point, all my crew is spread out so far, and we only have two outside water faucets. When we get the kennels up in the spring, Tommy promised me he would have a water line run out to the coops. He has already brought home all the stuff to run electricity out there. That should make it easier. But when I fill up waterers, I have to carry all of them. But the A.D.D. in me will pick up one of the hens, and I forget what I was doing. You'll find me sitting on the benches I put in front of the coops talking to them like they are therapist or something. lol

itsthelaw: Thats hilarious! I would surely run off the road if I saw someone checkin the mail with a hen under their arm but I know just how you feel. I do have 3 pup babies to spoil so they are my therapists.
