If you are looking for pigeons I suggest you find one of the forum threads here on BYC that are pigeon enthusiast. WE are basically chickens.
Hey folks, Hows it going?
was posting about lost pigeon, and if anyone came across in travels as many go to area sales swaps and shows ect, to know it was ok maybe and ended up with someone, as pigeons do a lot go to those who have chickens, and some on here do have pigeons, and a lot including you, have talked about other critters owned and liked in area, including dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, pet rats, ect.. as most of those are far differant than pigeons and chickens, I was just putting it out there. thanks for excluding me cause i currently cant have all other animals said about on here including chickens.
Breeding parents to their offspring promotes a loss of purity in the gene pool...as well as sterility and possible disformities. I have line breed for over 20 years and there is plenty of info and article to prove those findings. There is not difference in daughter to father than sister to brother..you are still duplicating genes with no recessive gene. I work with a geneticist at UK....so...I do not advise anyone to breed in that fashion if you want a quality result. It has nothing to do with human genetics!line breeding is by definition breeding to and from down line, and you can breed father to daughter, then daughter's daughter ect.. down line, as quickest best results when want to show traits, and mostly save to do for certain time, and can extend it by then crossing back to son's son's bred back to and down from mother. its done a lot in chickens and perfectly acceptable. brother to sister crossing however a big no no unless only ones you have/want to work with, and can produce problems as you may not know parentage of them to begin with and might be sibling crosses, and anyway you should only do once to get your breeders to cross and line breed around if "necessary". human genetics are a lot differant than a lot of animal genetics, and variability in bird and reptile gentics are something especially great to look up and learn. im greatly but still novice in genetics experiance for example, but have studied for many years on humans, mammals, reptiles, birds, and invertibrates (i know next to nothing about many fish species though). lol
Well...what would you like to achieve from you line and what type of breed? So how would you work on a line?
I am so sorry I missed your post. If my hens will start to cooperate with me I will have eggs. I have a Lav. Dbl tufted hen and a beautiful white hen I show under him. He has started crowing but I haven't found him mounting yet but shouldn't be long. The roo is also dbl tufted! Daphne has some beautiful Ameracuanas. Contact me later..in case I forget to let you know, and I will see what I can do about eggs. With just 2 hens it will a bit slow at first. Thanks!!Speaking of Blue Wheaten.... Got any eggs?
Tim Meeks. I believe he breeds game birds. He had a couple other breeds but I don't remember what kind. He was a policeman for a long time but came home from Afganastine PTST and a few other health issues from exposure to chemicals. He finally was able to get disability. I hated to see what it did to him. SO...he jokes about being a house husband. He has a little girl who is 4 and he really loves being able to spend so much time with her. I will see what he has...I need to catch up with him anyways.Who is your cousin?
And I want to breed and preserve wyandottes.
