@ TENNESSEECKN I have 6 chocolate orpington eggs and 6 isbar eggs greenfire sent.

And yes, my daughter was very lucky and at least it happened close to Christmas break so she doesn't have to miss as much school.

Sorry guys but I just have to brag.
I never win at any online contest. I am so tickled at this.

WOOT!!!!

We Have A Winner!!!

The number of eggs set was 5,706 (that is a LOT of baby chicks!!!) and the winning guess was Talbott Poultry with the guess of 5,720 here:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...-1-total-number-of-eggs-set/110#post_10067656

(Talbott Poultry also guessed 5,718 on the spreadsheet)

Great job to everyone who played and for Brinsea for donating the prize!

Talbott, I'll message you with next steps!!!

Ok so how does Lavender figure into these?

Would the Lavender replace the Blue?
Lavender x Lavender = Lavender and/or Blue..small possiblity of Black Split (BS would be because the original Lavs. where from black splits and would carry that parents Lav. recessive gene)
Lavender x Black/Split = Lavender. Black, Blue
Lavender x Blue = Lavender, Blue..possible Black but will not be splits. Splits come only from the Lav. x black
Black Split x Black Split = Lavender, Black Split

One reason the variable are quite different with Lavender is because they are a dilution of black and blue. I think this is how Harry Shaffer explained it to me. I will go back and check. He developed his from square 1. You can breed lavender to lavender but want to make certain to breed back to black in order to keep the lavender to become too diluted. If you start noticing other breeds with lavenders that others have you will be able to tell who is breeding black back in and who aren't.

Is the next step when you have them send it to me?

If you breed lavender to lavender, you get 100% lavender. Lavender is recessive, so if you breed lavender to black, you get birds who look black but carry the lavender gene (Splits, or blacks split to lavender) When you start breeding splits it starts getting really crazy because you can get black, splits, and lavenders.

So, I guess you could sub blue for splits and splash for lavender and use that chart... Right?

Sorry, Barnqueen. Your chart is Greek to me. I like the colored dots one better. For some reason my brain won't wrap around the BB and Bb and all that. Same thing with anything electrical. I just don't get it...
Lavenders carry a recessive gene..from what I was told my Harry Shaffer..because they where used to develop the lavenders..so if you do Lav x Lav there is a small possibility of black splits. Believe me it is really hard to explain some of the genetic stuff. Because of so many variables it makes it become so complicated. BB would be a solid black chicken. Both genes would be black. Bb means there is a dominant gene and a recessive...that was how it was explained to me..now when you get into more than 2..that is when I have to sit and look at it for a couple days going "huh". So Renee bails me out! I am lucky to have a her.. who is good at dummying it down for me. It is a science geek thing for me...when it intrigues me...I want to know more!

@Itsthelaw....I have eaten nothing but fiber cereal, salads w/ small grilled piece of chicken and a few crackers for snack...lost 7 lbs the first week...gained 2 the 4th week. I give up!

@Bario..I really like the bator you are making...may be something to consider a patent.

TNBARNQUEEN, I haven't changed my diet yet. I figure when the sodas go (I have cut back), I'll really lose. I have been working out. I had back surgery last September and put on a lot of weight. Moving again has really helped my back.

I am finding the older I get, the harder it is to come off.

Our guineas got out yesterday for the first time in two weeks. I let them out because there run is nothing but mud. They ran all day. (first time - longest up to this point was four hours). They broke up in small groups instead of staying together like I was told they would do. But at the end of the day, (I had left their door open) they all went home on their own. Whoo-hoo!

I personally was drinking 6 to 8 canned Dr Peppers a day.
Way back on Memorial day it was so hot the I drank a lot of water.
After that I all but stopped drinking soda's.
Now I drink water with Black Cherry Mio.
I do good to drink a soda every two weeks.

Wonderful to hear that the guineas came home.
