No they are game hens. Dbf brought them home to me.. 1 is suppose to be a laying hen.. but she looks game. This man gave them to us. But they still come down when I fed. And no the net thing doesn't work. I ran them all day and got no where. They sleep in the tallest tree they can find I believe. Going to try again tomorrow. Now that there is 2 it maybe easier.
I have bamboo which I cut one down and strip it all but about a foot at the end. It makes a huge extension of your arm and you can shoo them with it. I just rustle it on the ground pushing them towards the area where i want them. I call mine the "Chicken Chaser" which is about 7 foot long. I also have climbed trees at night to get them. DH stands at the bottom with a pillow case so when I get one I swing down and put it in the pillow case.
I hope my Polish never get out....they roost 10 feet high in their run and also want to lay their eggs on a shelf 6 foot up. Makes it hard to collect eggs. When I first found where they where hiding them there was 16 eggs on the shelf!

We have tried the night thing. They just go higher. We have nothing but pines behind the house. We are going to try the put food in a propped box and go in the back bedroom And when they go in pull the prop

the current collie wont touch raw meat, but will take raw pigeon and chicken eggs ect. i always feed quality meat that i know ere came from deer ect., ive killed myself ect when i fed raw.

if banties then easier to make a trap out of rabbit cage, were you just bend pieces of coat hanger so hang straight from inside of open door, just wide narrow enough apart so they cannot get back out once they get in by others to eat mealworms (the ones who are eating inside will make a treat call telling great treats, and the rest will come in to eat). it the same you could look up for how fanciers make a pigeon bob trap, for when homers come back, or trapping ferals humanely. good luck, as they can go feral quick and prefer to be out if game type, but they get the idea after taming down were home is if theye been safe there for a while at night (a group of game hens took months before would come in on own, but were pretty safe shielded from night attacks up in a trimmed cedar, though the stupid "egg laying whites" as called down here which are white leghorn mixes, will lay from roost which can get messy underneath.

Again...it is not healthy for a dog to be fed or permitted to eat raw meat! It does not mean "quality" meat or eggs makes it OK. This disturbs their digestive system and is not a healthy practice! Please do not keep insisting people do this as it is not good advice to those new to having their pets. NO vet will uphold this practice as it can also promote certain types of parasites to the dogs system..some being fatal.

CHICKENS would have to be away from home for a great deal of time to become feral. Chickens are not bred as feral animals but are domesticated. If they had feral tendencies no one could be successful in free ranging their chickens daily.
You do not have chickens..instead pigeons....it would suit you more to be on a forum concerning pigeons..not chickens.

You can take a dog kennel and put food inside it letting them eat for a few days. Maybe even move the kennel a foot or so each day. When you get them to a place that may be easier to catch up,,you can set the door with a string and pull shut. I use to catch feral cats this way..but hold on to the string tight when you close it. You can also put a temporary fence in a V with the cage in it. at the back part put netting over it so that if you can run them into that area the cannot fly over the fence. A couple friends to help may be helpful. It may take them a few days to feel safe going inside it but it is a step in the right direction. Food that they really like will help...such as bread. It can be very frustrating but this practice has worked for me on a lot of animals. If you are at a bit of a distance when they go in to eat it makes them less fearful to eat inside. Maybe move a step or so closer each day. Oh...covering the back part of the cage will help them feel safer as well as giving you a vantage point in moving closer. Hope you can catch them soon!

We have manage to capture the last 2 hens out of pure luck. All chickens are together. I really hope this never happens again!!

******NEEDING ANIMALS TO PHOTOGRAPH*******

I already have chickens, guineas and rabbits (and plenty of dogs). I am looking for something else - such as sheep. I have scheduled to go to farm with donkeys next week. Does ANYONE have something else I could photograph? (or know of someone I could contact?) Looking for close up shots of faces. I am looking for painting projects. Any help would be appreciated. I am willing to travel an hour in any direction. I'll even share shots if someone wants their pets photographed. Thanks.

I am not sure how far away you are from Harrison (Birchwood area) but your welcome to come photograph the cows. The lady accross the road from us has Camels, Zebra, Yaks, etc. They run an exotics farm. She lets people take pics from the road all the time. You could also ask her, she seems nice enough.
