yes, beware craigslist, as a woman makes her living with another, by them and their boyfriends getting cheap, free, or low balling after they keep flagging etc. so no one else has or thinks is good, also suspected of getting address, and stealing, as then never show up if the item/s have disappeared. for the record, i try to bargain... or low ball, but because limited funds currently, but still seems wrong (but ill try to trade better if i can for something). lol this is for mostly knox, but been in tri city ads also alot as heard as of late. just a friendly heads up, not trying to overly caution anyone, just thought of recent incident, so figured worth mentioning, as chickens and accessories starting to be seen as lucrative by them maybe, but they mostly deal in dogs, cage birds, and herps/inverts.

(stealing that is), it's so hard for my husband and me to trust anyone. He's finally became comfortable enough not to keep everything we own under lock and key, but its people like those that make me feel like going to home depot and putting money towards better locks (including on my chickens!). I even tell my neighbor not to bring people through my yard to show his goats off, because he's not been known to have the best of people hanging around. I don't see anything wrong with bargaining, sometimes things are priced higher than they're worth and some people hike the prices up in expecting the price to be negotiated.

There is also a younger guy (PM for his various aliases) who will take your "free to a good home" chickens or even next to free chickens - often offering deals on large quantities... he takes them, HOARDS them in small cages until he sells them for much more than you got. No job... that is all he does. Maryville is always his location but he does also frequent local trades. A biosecurity and animal abuse nightmare with two legs is what he is. Just warning you. He is on my blacklist. Few others but he is top.

ETA: laughingdog... there is a difference in barganing... which is fine and then offering $150 for a coop that cost nearly three times that in materials and has never been lived in by a chicken. THAT isn't barganing... that is a insult.

Maybe you tag team you mention is the infamous flagger and also the one who offered $150 for the coop.... lol!!!! BTW - it's sold and pending delivery. thanks to cybercat

Afterthought:

I never have people come over to see anything for sale. EVER.... ESPECIALLY chickens. That said, I am so busy tommarrow I told a guy to come look at the scooter I'm selling here. I'll be sure to snag their tag number while they are there. But to be honest... I live on a dead end road and there is more ammo and firearms on this quiet road than you can count. And what is worse... I'm the ONLY one on the road with a job. Everyone is close and knows who is supposed to be there and who isn't. No one would get away with anything here. lol I guess I got it kinda lucky.

But still... never let people over to see things for sale through CL... I'm convinced it has more crazies than normal people. ESPECIALLY now. Good news is THIS guy comming is with his wife and comming up from the south. Not saying that makes them perfect... but it means they aren't the ones laughingdog is talking about!

My moms coop was attacked by a BEAR!! A huge BEAR!! It stands 7 foot tall on its back legs. We are out of town. But our little chicks are safe in our garage. She wanted to take them to her house while we were gone. But I told her no. Because I was afraid her chickens would kill mine. Any ways back to the bear. My cousin that lives next to my mom. Has one very large coop, some small pens and a good size barn. The bear did rip threw his fence. But lucky all the chickens were up for the night. It played with their trash can like a foot ball. Then went to my moms house. She has been keeping her chicken in a rabbit cage. It has a box on one end like a nest box. (I'm sure before long all the Hens will be at my house:)) The bear dragged it off its stand and down to the woods. It was not able to get the chickens. They stayed hid in that box. So the next night my mom and dad moved the cage closer to the house and under a street light. So when their dog went crazy in the middle of the night. They would know it was back. Sure enough it came back and this time dragged the cage about 15 feet into the woods. It did bite a hole in one end of the box. But once again the chickens made it. My parents do live near the big south fork park. All the years they have lived there. They have never had a bear problem. We also have seen a mountain lion in the past month. I guess the chickens are drawing them in..?
