Just checking in. Hubby came home and took a personal day since I threw my back out. That is what I got for cleaning out coop last weekend. I am OK just sore and over did yesterday somehow too.

Coop is here

Well, I am off to get hubby up so he can let chickens out of coop. Have a good day all.

I was wondering if anyone has a handsome, mature barred rock cockerel for sale in the Maryville area for my 8 girls. Thank you!

Probably best to email instead of PM me!

lol it will help the festival so much! I would love to have a chicken stock too but the city might flip out a little at that LOL

Does anyone in or around the Knoxville area have any silkies for sale?

If so, please pm or email me. Thanks!

Well, so far we have 20 chicks. The ones I hatched and those the broodies hatched. That number might change as the broody now is just hatching hers saw two new chicks when I opened coop this morning.

Lost 2 more of my birdies last night. One of my white/barred rock mixes and whatever it was took my daughters black cochin. The head was really beat up on the rock and some of its wing feathers broken and looked like it was bitten. I've got one more step i'm going to take as i don't think whatever it is is coming from inside but outside in. I'm just going to screw a piece of plywood over the entry door, no more of this free to go in and out or this "the door will move with enough force" since apparently whatever it is...has enough force to open it. The "kids" will just have to wait till i go out in the morning to go outside. I can not wait to get the roof installe don the pen and the new living quarters built iniside. Has anyone had problems with pests getting in a coop with a concrete floor??

I'm hoping to get some help from one of my fellow ETN chicken fanatics.

I work for a newspaper in Morristown and was assigned to write the cover story for our monthly Wink magazine. I've talked about my chickens so much the publisher thought it might be a cool story because chickens seem to be the new "in" thing.

I'm hoping to interview someone from one of our eight counties (Hamblen, Hawkins, Hancock, Grainger, Claiborne, Cocke, Greene or Jefferson). Unfortunately the powers that be get cranky if we interview someone outside our coverage area.

In addition to the story, we'll also want to do a cover picture and several inside pictures of the chickens and the owner. You can see a sample online version of the glossy print magazine at www.readwink.com.

I'm hoping someone will agree to be interviewed or else it's back to the drawing board.

On another note, I decided not to hatch any eggs this spring. So I ordered 10 black bantam cochins and 10 barred rock chicks from Cackle Hatchery. They sent me 10 black silkies and 10 BR. After I reported their mistake, they sent the cochins, plus an extra packing peanut and six additional random chicks.

Then my chickens decided to all go broody on me. In one coop I've got four hens setting in two nest boxes.

I'm about to be up to my armpits in chicks. And coop building.

I've not be on here as much lately, but I'm hoping to get back in the swing of things.

Thanks,

Denise
