Hey all, Just thought I would give everyone around the Athens, Riceville Tn. area a "heads up" alert. I run a small hatchery here in Delano in Polk co. and in the last 5 days I have had 2 different people come to buy replacement chicks from me, apparently these people have had their entire flock stolen. One lady called me this morning and said someone had made off with all her leghorns, one buff Orpington Roo, and 4 Ameracanas last night. I felt so bad for her, she had raised them up from chicks and they were just at the point of laying, she was so upset. Another man had all of his Black Australorps stolen. For the life of me I cannot imagine why anyone would be so low down as to steal someones flock of chickens! I told her to call the police and make a report, she called me back and told me she did call them and when they got a chance they would come out.

It *might* be the work of unemployed illegals that couldn't buy food because they can't get a job.

...I, just this year, already gotten corn and tomatoes taken, but this spring, someone stole about 4-5 wheelbarrows full of beautiful soil.

Somebody stole soil?! I never thought somebody would steal that.

There is no fun in that! my BR who just raised her brood (BROOD!) has decided to go broody (BROODY!) again. Hopefully she does better this time.

Me either hencackle, me either. Talk about dirty and below the belt, and my son had just rototilled that evening. May 5th, just 2 days before I planted, n THEN I had to go to the store n replace my soil before I could even plant my beans. Really wrong. AND illegals r just that ILLEGAL, but I promise you its not illegal immigrants. They wouldn't get within 10 miles of my subdivision, so I have no idea.

oh and yes... they may not ever make it to auction... they may only make it to the dinner table.

I am getting my blood boiling thinking about it.

I know I have lost 30+ birds in three weeks... but I know at least alot of them were dogs and some were wild things brought in by the smell of blood from the dogs. No doubt that most of my losses were dogs. Especially that last one on Sunday... robbers don't leave dead birds laying about.

The heat brings it out of alot of breeds. I had three sebrights broody, a OEGB, two Dels, a BR, a Sussex, a Australorp, a Cochin, a Barnevelder, and two bantam Barnevelders ... all broody at once. Never happened like that before. Once a hen's body gets a certain temp they want to sit... so the weather brings it out more. yay. lol
