I was told by a Mexican guy I worked with that illegals who can't get jobs or food stamps will steal chickens, goats, and pigs to feed themselves and their families with. He flat out told me to padlock my goats and chickens up! I'm not starting a immigration debate, but the area does have alot... something to think about.

no matter what color the skin or where they are from... there is more and more people hungery right now. Chickens are easy to catch, transport, and kill.

its not racist, that Mexicans will actually eat them at least, instead of selling for food, booze or drugs. id actually feel better knowing my animals were killed quick by people with probably recent background in AG, and new how to quickly kill the stolen stock, and care decently for even as precious food, rather than meth and pill head rednecks etc.

Of course this is just my opinion, but I don't think its OK to steal. Anyone who needs help with food, has help with food. Even those who DON'T need help with food r on food stamps. So much fraud, people able to wrk just refuse. They let the governmt take care of them. I think if u r here illegally, u need to go home.

well if animal control doesnt seize them all first, i might have to sell super cheap, or just have someone foster till i can get another place, as received a notice thrown at my door at 5pm saying everything was illegal by certain differant statures but dogs and cats (which by other zoning and health laws we are not allowed any animals, but notice no one is enforcing that?), are ok, and the under forty pound rule even doent apply to the new cops complaining that there useless fat dogs, bark all the time and allowed to run loose, as well as the cops getting vommiting drunk and fighting all night with women recently (but at least the shooting and fireworks have stopped), are big complaints manager says constantly, but no one reprimands them. talk about giving police and military (some ex military and try to use it at every opportunity) bad names! mean while i get these further restrictive notices, suspiciously right after i try to get them to fix things, like for instance the flooding and black mold making downstairs probably unlivable and major health and safety violation, as im forced to stay mostly upstairs from allergies to it, and cant turn my fan vents on, as worried itll just blow it up here like did in instance before, and they just look at it and either say they dont see it (keep in mind i am legallt blind, but can see mushrooms growing out of my carpet), or its a broken pipe, or it doesnt need to be fixed and fine, and i just need to clean it up. ive done contracting and know how to solve minorly, but major issue is walls starting to come apart in areas as spongy and black mold in eating away at it being so wet lately, that itll need more work than just bleach and paint...

RANT OVER

I might be able to foster a few of them for you if you wanted to do that, not sure exactly what you have versus the cages I have open at the time. I hate to see someone loose their birds though. Its impossible to sell birds right now, I have been trying with some of my chicks that are almost all pullets except one little guy.

I'll just assume that I am excluded from fostering in light of recent events. (trying to find some funny in this mess)

Stang- yes, "distraught" is a great word for what I am feeling lately. Remember "stretch armstrong"? Yeah... that is about the right image for how I feel. I took some power back today. Used PayPal to make a invoice and it totalled to $60 over what I quoted... sending it registered mail tommarrow. So you know when people say "just bill me"? I AM! Makes me feel a bit better, but of course nothing would make me feel great about it. I hatched those babies and raised them (and I hug my chickens) and they were about 2-4 weeks from laying (most of them)... PLUS they were XW line BRs and Greenfire Coros and Dutch import Barnevelders.... and a Morrow Del who has less $$ value, but still emotional value. Nothing should be killed for the heck of it. At least wild things EAT the bird!

Sorry to keep harping on it. I'm DISTRAUGHT!

Hey stanglover..your right it has been a while since we heard from you. Im glad to hear that Nella's broody mojo stays in her area of Etn, lol i was getting nervous. But She is one of a handful of people that I know her birds are top notch. As far as meat bunnies, we are still planning the cages and / or community boxes (going back and forth) will probably be a hybrid system. Had heart set on Champagne d'Argent's but looks like the breeding stock will be hard to find anywhere near this area. I guess we will go with new zealands or zealand / california cross. Pers. freezer only, not planning to sell (would have to sell live and then offer to butcher for free to circumvent law anyway). Would like to start with a buck and three does to see how it goes. Will always be at or under 5 does in any case.

well if could get to flea market could sell off for five to ten bucks for hens, and pairs of banties for twenty five to thirty, or game cocks for fifteen to thirty, but not sure if like not being able to be picky about buyers. so actually find parm homes for most to maybe all but trying to keep two bantams if can hide, and not have chuckles be heard with his tiny kazoo crow occasionally, and the hen that doesnt egg call as she hardly if ever lays but once week to month.

anyone want to swap maybe your extra babies etc of diamond doves and button quail (as could keep in big cages with parakeets and finches), for my ringneck pair, turtle dove pair, and maybe courtnix quail if they arnt gone to one guy or other quick??? also have one high fast flying for hours pigeon (as forget what two types his parents were supposed to be), that homes storm or shine. one fancy fantailed ash grizzel pigeon. one feral color blue bar, but from black homer nest and homes to well to point of being lazy.

also for trade with maybe green or other than normal blue hopefully, female parakeet for maybe above at least or maybe even one of these: pair of peach faced lovebirds with nine eggs. pair of cockatiels, with three eggs. just to tell i really wasnt intending for anything other than the doves, and budgies to breed, and tried with them for ever (budgies over a year, till thought to mist with hot water out in sun), but when set up both tiels and lovebirds they immediatly started laying on bottom of cages, and love birds are real young and were still hand feeding when bought, but had the one tiel female for over year, and had gotten the male monthes ago as he wasnt aggressive like the male before, to her, as just as shy, so they got on immediately as the female got beat up by even the zebra finches as did he.

i just figured more keets of differant than normal blue color, or even female for the one i just was given, as his mate was killed by one of the children when he held her last time, would do better with trying to keep secret or no one caring about such tiny quiet birds like diamond doves, button quail, and budgies and finches. forgot would like to also trade for finches other than zebras (hopefully gouldians, as then wouldnt miss my lovebird's colors so much).

also got two male het and the one high yellow with odd markings (forget what pattern is called, but they accidentally bred one of the females when told to young to breed). five female high morph and het types of leopard geckos. one chillain rose hair tarantula (the only pet of ex wife, or anyone's, who didnt bite her. lol), colony of G. portantosa giant hissing cockroaches (my birds fight like crazy cause they apparently are like lobster to them). colony of B. dubia roaches (twenty pounds about, and my chickens love these as well, but after fed off five to ten pounds of the large colony for days or longer on end for monthes, they kinda got to lazy to waddle after them), pair of guinea pigs, with mama ready to pop with twins i think again. also interested in tropical geckos like tokays, tat could hide in huge terrariums i have with house plants, were guessing no one would know. i know insane to even try to trade down..

im curious as to why my animals all are such eager breeders.. epecially at apparently the worst possible time!

why are you excluded from fostering? ive probably forgetting thigs ive read on here in my confused recent rushing.

I just got another phone call from the young lady that had her chickens stolen. They were stole Tuesday night, I checked the flea market Wed. morning and saw nothing like her's at all, even though there were plently of chickens there. Apparently the theives came back Wed. night to get the few she had left, they did not take her Black Australorps in the first raid (which seems very strange since the other person that lost all his birds were all Black Australorps, maybe it was the same person and they did'nt want anymore Australorps?) Anyway, they came back and were not able to steal any of them because she had padlocked the coops and used some kind of screws on the hinges on the doors that would not unscrew, don't know what that is but that is what she told me. I ask her how she knew they had returned since they didn't get any and she said they had mashed down the fence to enter the chicken run, but could not get in the coop. She is still very upset, and by the way she said the police never showed up to make a report of it!
