My BLRW is one that got spared when I went to the farm to process my boys. The gentleman in charge of "doing the deed" had him poised above the cone when he decided he wanted him. That's what I heard, at least. I was way far away when it was time to do mine.

He came from the same breeder as my SLW but I don't think he was anywhere close to the same quality. I think there's just a lot of work to be done on that variety.

Is there anything you can out cross to to get better lacing or type?

Just checking in since I have not in quite a while. Everyone here is doing well, FINALLY getting eggs it's only been what seems to be a lifetime! I've got 3 laying, just waiting for the others to follow suit. Been busier than a one legged man in a butt kickin contest with school happenings, community goings ons and of course, preparing for the fat man's visit. I hope everyone else is doing well as well. Happy Tuesday!

Ah the rain is back! My yard looks like a pond again, well a bunch of ankle deep puddles anyway. And the creek that is dry most of the year is raging. We bought this place in feb11. Since that time we have been tring to clean out the mess down there. A tangle of saw briars, old barbed wire, blackberry, thick under growth, dead trees, broken trees, misc old metal junk in the creek bed including a stove and 55gal drums. Looks like who ever owned it before used the woods as a dump. Lots of old bottles and car parts! We have gotten to the creek now and can see it is a nice looking area. The plan is too clean it up and make a dam. We still wouldn't have water all year. But it would be fun for the kids and a water hole for the wild life that may not want to walk a 1/4 mile to the river across the highway. Maybe later we can have a well dug and pump in the water. It's not like we'd have to go far down for water. But the ground is chirp, rock and clay. Give us a few years will turn this place into a farm stead

Funny thing is we moved to the country to get as far away as we can from the city dwellers and still drive in everyday. So no one would care if we have chickens or what ever livestock I end up with. Only to end up with people from the city building high end homes around me and my chickens. But to keep the peace My 3yr old girl gives out our extra eggs on the side of the driveway to them as they pass. She thinks its fun and they don't run over my chickens

Rain has been crazy this year. Even the weathermen have stopped talking about the "hidden" drought

I'm also in the process of clearing up woodland/brush to get some pasture and garden space. It's a ton of work but I keep telling myself one day it'll be worth it. I'm on the side of a hill but the water still pools up in one spot for 3-4 months a year, and it's started extra early this year. I might just have to scrap that area as a garden and dig a pond if it keeps raining like this.

dont get me started on the rocks, ugh. This property was an old creek bed that they diverted when the built 40 across this way years ago. The river rock is so bad that I finally had to get a back hoe just to dig fence posts. sounds like we have the same type of property, we dropped 12 old dead and dying trees and then spent countless hours pulling out trash and old barbed wire wrapped up in all the wild vines and kudzoo. Funny I just burned a bunch more yesterday before the rain started. Speaking of which, we still have 6 trees on the ground that are already limbed up and cleaned up. If anyone needs firewood all you have to do is come cut the logs to the size you want FREE for the taking!!!

This is where we went for the processing class, they had a good sized setup. Daphne also went there. when we were there he was processing some of those heritage birds as the market just wasn't there for the white colored ones & he had several different breeds at that time.He also had turkeys, guineas, geese, ducks. He had several beef, horses donkeys as well.

Well, considering they are getting there stock from MM I would not count on it breeding true. The say they buy chicks then raise to sell them. They are not doing much breeding then buy the looks of it.
