There was a lady on the imported thread that bought infected birds from a reputable breeder and she described her experience. They had the typical leg thrown out behind them posture eventually and they generally felt bad as a first symptom. They were all puffed up and miserable. I'm hoping since this one's alert and chatty that it's not Mareks.
The only way to confirm is testing, right? She said she doesn't have a local vet that will see poultry, but I'll see if she knows about extension offices.
Testing is done post-mortem.
Sadly, chatty and alert doesn't rule out Mareks because Mareks is a form of cancer (from what I understand after a lot of conversations on the subject). The typical leg thrown back thing doesn not occur 100% of the time.
