There was a lady on the imported thread that bought infected birds from a reputable breeder and she described her experience. They had the typical leg thrown out behind them posture eventually and they generally felt bad as a first symptom. They were all puffed up and miserable. I'm hoping since this one's alert and chatty that it's not Mareks.

The only way to confirm is testing, right? She said she doesn't have a local vet that will see poultry, but I'll see if she knows about extension offices.

Testing is done post-mortem.

Sadly, chatty and alert doesn't rule out Mareks because Mareks is a form of cancer (from what I understand after a lot of conversations on the subject). The typical leg thrown back thing doesn not occur 100% of the time.

I find it easier to resist large breed dogs after owning two danes at the same time. They are great when young, but the older years (6-10) can be really tough on them. I think my oldest dane aged from young to old overnight. We had to really control his diet towards the end to get him leaned up a bit. For a large dog being overweight is pretty much torture. Once he got down to a respectable 140ish lbs he felt a lot better and was able to bark and chase coyotes all night and scare the *#$@ out of d-t-d salesmen again. Saying "No, I'm not interested in that" seems to carry more weight with 140lbs of dog behind you...

its funny the way that works on salesmen. We had a meat guy that my wife said no to a couple times. I came up from the back and told him no and that Harley had gotten away from me...he had better get safe inside his truck. Harley come hauling butt up and you never seen two guys move so quick back to their truck. I was laughing so hard I was crying.

He is super friendly away from the house or outside the vehicles, but can scare the crap out of you inside the yard or if you approach the van when he is in there.

@bairo, you dont live out near bybee? as my family lives out there, and theyre are a couple meat seller guys that are reputable, but one at least that know was thought to be copying the usual ones, and using it to case people's places, as one group tried coming back up later at night, my ma and even big step father is happy for last guard dog they got from me, as he and other ones they got from me made it pants fillingly clear to them (and my family too... lol), that they werent welcome, with one single giant roar of a bark (his nickname by my neighbors was cujo), and they havent been back since. though truth be told he is the biggest baby of a sweetheart after told your ok, and no one would mess with you as his friend. some of the meat truck guys, did pull guns on my grandmother's dog, so watch out with letting the dogs loose when they come up, and the one out was friendly, while the vicious one was for the moment contained, but she was scared theyd shoot her dog.

well if this wild part bobcat from the woods is a boy, and my female Maine coon mix (excellent ratter), decides to not attack him when it comes past her territory one time, when she goes into heat, im sure the kittens will be very great mousers, and very smart and durable, if a bit skittish.. though the other ive never heard so much as a toot out of, "my" cat is annoyingly cheerful and vocal at times towards me.
