I had to laugh out loud. Barnqueen, I think you have me confused with Chickennut. I can't grow anything. It would be way more efficient for me to just take any plants I buy and toss them directly into my compost heap. I'd save myself the effort of planting them and watching them die... sigh...

My theory? If I leave them in the ground for five or six years they're really easy-breezy to dig up. It just shows how little I like manual labor that I will step over a stump for that long.

@Nella, those sure are cuties! Right now it's been two weeks since my daughter's cleaned Jazzy's pen, so I'm not even a little tempted right now.

@Stang, I wish I could take credit for Frederick, but you've witnesses first-hand the kind of spazz-matic Ameraucana boys I raise. And my very first rooster?... He was the spawn of satan, with the IQ of a rock. GRRRRR! I hated that stupid bird. This was him before he reached his full terror-inducing size.

three pigeon eggs! ah ah ah.. as my flight hen laid an egg the other day now, but its lacking the bloom and most calcium it would need, as only has half of calcium would seem to need, at most, only on ring in middle of egg. im trying to feed layer pellets mixed in and today sprinkled reptile calcium powder with D3 in with their feed.

Go into lock down a week from today for hopefully some pipping the morning of the 28th.

I placed 11 for the little bator test run and 1 got pulled on day 6. We shall see if I had any quitters...no stink yet though so I am optimistic we could get 10.

Terri, Dont you and someone else have some going as well?

Edited... How is every ones production? Mine has come way up lately, so me and the dogs get fried eggs almost every morning again :) There was a week there we got all the way down to 2 a day, now back up to 7-9 a day.

Egg production is picking up here. I am getting 4-6 eggs from 8 hens.

My eggs are on day 6 today. They should be hatching on the 2nd. I have my barn yard mix and am doing a test hatch with tennesseeckn's Orp eggs. I am hoping for a splash Orp this time.

I thought this article was interesting....

Beautiful day yesterday! Enjoying the mild weather. My New Years Day chicks need to be moved out of the house soon!

Starting to stink. My DD is going to be so mad at me when I do. She loves playing with them. Of coarse she has been watching Rio (the movie) and really wants to teach the chicks to fly.... NOT a good thing. Thank goodness we caught her before the flying lessons.

Bairo, any pointer for raising an non-aggressive rooster? I haven't been having to much luck and my one of 18 week old SFH is showing sign of not liking the kids already. I have tried the hands off approach, but am thinking maybe I should let them hold him and get him treats everyday for a while.

Hey guys

I thought I would pop in over here and ask... Is anyone going to Newnan and if so does anyone have SLW? Looking for hatching eggs, but might take birds. If you are not going but are near the interstate or could meet me on the way, or if you know someone with them PM me.... Just can't find them in Midd TN.

Thanks Have a good day!!!!

This is what I would do. Although try as we may though they all seem to be different. Even though Delawares and Cochin's for example are known for calm Roosters I have seen plenty that need Prozac or freezer camp.

You can try by starting with the kids giving treats after he is on the roost for the evening. After a few nights of that, have them pet him with one hand while giving the treat with the other. Be sure and visit with his girls also so he can see. He may never jump up in your lap during the day but should start to calm down after he realizes that you guys are not a threat to his girls.

A friend of mine is wanting to trade a bantam sized multi-penciled red partridge wyandotte for a hen/pullet less than a year old - standard size. The bird is about 7 months old and just started laying this week. Last egg weighed in at 34g.

@ bairo - my mistake!

I just thought you had him for a little while, anyway he's doing really well.. the run I have him in hasn't had chickens in a while and growing grass. I really need a hen to go with him though... he stands at the fence as close to the other chickens as he can and he's my favorite chicken, so spoiled though... I'm getting 3 eggs a day from 4 hens... and I know who isn't laying, she's lucky she's a BLRW!

@ tennesseeckn - I dunno if I'll need the metal trays anymore, thinking of making me a flush clean system instead... makes it easier to clean!

@ Nella - well poohy!

Ah HA!! So that's the secret.

If you don't mind, I'll just send all of my boys for a short stay at Camp Bairo!

Kind of like military school for cockerels.
