Thanks for the welcomes. You guys are fine, it's actually my husband and kids that are the enablers! We came home the other day with 9 baby ducks from Tractor Supplies because before asking mom (who takes care of everything) dad said everyone could pick out a couple babies to take home...

I would be interested in the boy chicken. Is he friendly?

I have a friendly little roo you can have, I hatched him from an egg from HappyMtnFarm. He should be an Olive egger. He was from my NYD hatch. He is only 2 months. You may be looking for something older. Is your avatar a cute heeler pup? We love heelers at our house!

Yep we are Heeler Fans! We actually have puppies right now! 9 very sweet little babies!

How old do boy chickens have to be to breed?

usually 5-6 months....just depending on the rooster. at 5 months of age start cracking your eggs into a bowl and check your fertility rate. if it gets to about 90% of eggs fertile then fire up the incubator and save eggs for 4 days
Contrastphoto's roo is older than mine by a couple weeks...might be a better shot unless you get an adult roo.

**Contrast...how in the world do you get your chickens to hold so still ....and POSE! ? I am usually running mine down so I only get the butt end. Or..it they decide to stay still just when I start to take the pic...they walk up to the camera and I just get a big beak and eye. Oh...and hatchlings...I have learned how to do them at least. First just take one so they can all jump and poop at the same time. Then you can get some decent pics with out a poop pile behind them.

** Stang...good luck!!
** 110Organic. You do know how to calculate chicken math don't ya. Like I started with 5...and was only going to have 5...then somehow there where 16. Somehow that turned into around 62. But I do have mind spaced out so DH gets to tired trying to count.

**UPDATE on our get-together, I don't know if the recreational people have been busy with all the storm stuff as I am certain it has affected them. I am going to Panther Creek Monday to see if one of the rangers is there or anyone at the campground.
I hope everyone made it through intact. Our mountains also kept a lot of it off of us. I was hoping for some really nice lightening to photograph but everyone kept telling me to get my butt back inside.
**Bario...I have a doctors app. at 9 Monday. What time where you going to be at 1st Monday?? I will be out by 10:15 and only 15 min. away from it or we can meet there earlier. Just send me a PM and let me know!

six months to breed on average. my rooo is freindly but i dont hold him just let him be a chicken

Ladyride....I had been trying to tame down my Crele Polish roo....he ended up on the top of my head today. 2 weeks of trying and I give up.

It is the one on my avatar. I wanted to show him in May but he is so flighty I am sure the judges do not want him on their heads and with my luck..no telling where he would go if they dropped him. Otherwise he is fine...is he just messing with me??

@snozzle, there is a flea market etc in kingsport? @contrastphoto, beauty of a roo! my pigeons were pretty much totally unimpressed with the storms and were just hanging out chillin.

ill hopefully be family/transport pending, at the first monday with stepfather and my collie, to hopefully downsize my finches, at least some budgies/parakeets but not others as they have chicks still in nests, and some pigeons.

@laughingdog
There's an animal swap usually on every 1st Sattuday of the month, but this time it was moved to the 10th. It starts at 9am until usually 2pm and it's $9 to set up. Any kind of small livestock, pet or plant can be offered. It's in front of TSC and Jane Hall from Copper Creek Ranch runs it, she also works at this TSC. There is also the indoor flea market on the other side of Kingsport, but I have only been there once.
