I can be there :D I might have to bribe stang too if Nella wants to let go of that brooder :D :D :D Unless it's too big and then I'll just drive my butt there lol!!

crap..it did not save the long rant about Meyer Hatchery when I got booted out.

At any rate "nut" I had always heard good things about Greenfire. I have had a very disappointing experience with Meyer though. I split an order with my father-in-law and submitted the middle of December. Supposed to finally ship the last Monday in Feb. I get a call the day after it was supposed to ship saying 13 chicks out of the order were not available. I basically took a bunch of left overs to not have the order delayed until May!! I was OK with it though because I wanted some dark layers and more EE's in my egg selling / eating flock. They found a few wels, a few EE's and a few marans and said they were throwing in a single lonely penedesenca for free as well. I get the order and the pen was not there, a wel was DOA, lost two more wels that night, and 2 marans the next day. All the chicks were small and not very active at all. I think they were pushing hard to make the orders and used a lot of eggs from very young pullets. They are sending out replacements on the 26th...but I have to say that I am not impressed with them at all. This was my first and last order from them I'm sure.

edited for spell check

Just remembered...

I wanted to update you guys on that tunnel nest box I built to try and solve some egg pecking. Seems to be working great and the hens took right to it. If you ever have any issues like that or just want to try a modified cummunity box; it is basically a 5.5 ft. long by 16 inches deep by 12-16 inches tall (slanted roof) community box that has a solid front on it with a single 13x13 entry/exit hole and a hinged top for collecting eggs. Ideally it would be 8 feet long with an entry/exit hole at each end, but I needed that 2.5 feet on the end for something else.

And Daph....here are a couple pics that you can barely see the front edge of that floor brooder I was talking about. You see how the front side is shorter and so it is supported by side sides. the back is the same way so the chicks can come and go to the heat as they please. Since the top is covered all the heat is trapped and it stayed above 80 under there in 35 degree surroundings. The heat lamp is mounted inside the box to the side so it points left to right instead of straight down.

Sounds great barnqueen..... I think a few more can come on the 1st anyway it sounds like. I think at this point we may as well go ahead and get it reserved. Also I was thinking the smaller one in back furthest away from the soccer field might be better? Do you think? ( I pulled up the web site and found a map :)

Kim and I can be there by 12:45 at the latest but I think that is Megans weekend with her dad, I'll double check.
Now we need everyone to weigh in on what they want to bring. Can you keep that list as people say?

I also need to do some sweet talking to stang and her DH about bringing supplies from Nella, LOL

Great... I will call tomorrow and reserve. This pavilion is on past the soccer fields. Since there are some who will be attending church 1PM may be a good time. Just get there when you can, It will be nice to meet everyone.
*Contrast....can you do a group pic for us?
There are tables and benches but some may want to bring lawn chairs. My bum does not do well on hard wood.

If those attending will post an idea of what they want to bring we can make sure we have a good variety. Everyone will be responsible for their own beverages. That way we can make sure everyone has what they like.
