I can be there :D I might have to bribe stang too if Nella wants to let go of that brooder :D :D :D Unless it's too big and then I'll just drive my butt there lol!!

That made me laugh! I even had to tell DH, unfortunately he has no sense of humor and just stared at me waiting to hear a punchline or something...

That little buck is so cute, he hopped to the front of the cage and let me scratch his head...

That brings a picture to mind of stang driving down the road with DH strapped to the roof so she can fit all our chicken crap inside, LMAO...and my new buck of course :)

Anyone else getting random private messages from people? I just got one asking how to kill a rooster since there are so many opinions... and they wanted mine.

I don't know whether it's safe to answer or not...

@chickie, mine are mostly friendly once they get used to you, as they are rescues and sometimes take minutes to hours to really warm up and get comfy and chatty, and ones got as babies and still are, but the adults bought just as wanted them and their setup to try to get wild type/morph/color and pattern out of them, are not biters or mean or run, just not to sure seeming except slow, how to act around humans, other budgies in flock situation, and loose and with toys and variation from bare cage and nest box had when got (though had all outstanding vit, min, nutritional stuff, and most natural vibrant colors, and no dyes used in food or anything at all, and really lean muscled and healthier then ever seen in any tame budgie show or otherwise!), nest and cage was filthy and littered every were with three to four dozen eggs, not sure if were fresh, fertile, from that hen and or another and that cock, so tossed them to the lizards after checking to see if any were showing advanced signs of life (my beardies loved them!).

@grawg, i was wondering about smaller ducks and heard about the khaky cambel i think was the ones, that were great egg layers, only out done by the specialized and kept and fed, production hens. was looking into trying some of them, and/or other youd said, but heard they need a lot more room, messier, noisier (as apposed to supposed qwuakless muscovy), and needed more water to throw around than just head dipping and thrashing to clean nostrils.. any merrit to any of this or any first hand duck knowledge? also would be good so can tell person who would be getting them, or more than pair to quartet of females/ducks and one drake. they want a pool or pond, as have turtles walking all over in mud and puddles ditches, as live between ponds i think, and would take any free useful farm animal, and/or maybe trade laying hens for meat rabbits, as have some nice huge color patterned and solid colored ones, as well as my dutch bunnies now. i love baby ducks, and would want to try some sometime eventually just to have them around, even if had to part with most later, and oddly only thing my rescued muscovy duckling (already the size of a mallard or about maybe), dismayed me about, is it never quacked, and later found out it was what was white muscovy, what was called skol, scob, scoby, scooby, husky, hissing duck, or just quackless duck, and even a goose duck (hybrid), locally. the claws and perchng were odd for whaat i know of of ducks other than wood ducks (and know nothing really about them except they need wood nest boxes up high on edge of water, and/in/on tree.. supposedly.

@TNBarnQueen
I would love to join on the 31st. I think someone mentioned that pets are allowed in the park, is that correct?

Yes a lot of people take dogs there as the trails are pet friendly but they have to be leashed and utd on rabies shots. We take our dogs every other week in the warmer weather and they love it, well I usually wind up carrying Lilly, my pekingese most of the way because she decides she doesnt wanna go any further

its a good thing I have one of those backpacks to carry a dog in.

Does anyone know were to find healthy meat rabbits locally in East TN? We just moved from GA up here and had to get rid of a lot for the move. We kept all our diary goats and our 4 little chickens, but have been wanting some meat rabbits since the move.

id heard long ago the best way was to get a metal funnel that the roos and old hens just fit in with head and neck stick out the hole at bottom, with a bucket placed underneath, then just cut off with curved shears or sharp knife, holding head to do proper humane and quick, then let bleed out and nerves twitch held yight in funnel, blood neat in bucket, and carcass un maimed from nerves struggling and body convulsing from nerve spasms. just make sure to cut the head clean off. i just held, petting and then pull head off while let blood out into bowl and then let dogs and cat lap up.

@ stang; Yea, most people dont find funny what I do....But I have fun amusing myself. I would not answer that PM unless you know them or you know they are asking because you had posted something about rooster kills. We can safely assume then you are coming to the get together on the 1st?

Can you grab my crap from Nella when you get your Bator please

. I'll send her a message and figure out how to get her paid for it...I'll also bring you some sort of bonus for your trouble
big_smile.png
How about some fresh eggs...LMAO. Just kidding, I'll bring something good or cash.

@snoozle; we decided on April 1st so we could get a reservation. 1 PM and barnqueen will let us know which pavillion it is (although I think there are only 2 that are covered)

The calls made it here safely so will have babies for sale as soon as we get some hatched, they arent laying yet but shouldnt be too long. Speaking of weird messages, I got a email from a guy wanting to buy a call for a magic show.
Is anyone else going to the kingsport animal sale saturday?

@bairo I have no clue on incubating eggs as I've never tried. There are some very knowledgeable folks over in the duck forum that can help you out with that.

@laughingdog Khakis are pretty messy. Mallard derived breeds are known as "dabbler ducks" and they like to noodle through mud and what not looking for bugs. They will also take mud/dirt from around their water and rinse it through their bills. All that said, I'm really enjoying them. I have started free ranging them when I'm out working in the garden and they do a good job of staying close and are easily herded back into their pen.

I have 5 ducks and I'm still getting 2-4 eggs a day so I've got plenty of spare eggs atm for anyone who wants to incubate some. Some of the eggs will have pure khakis while others will be runner/khaki so those wont be worth much except for laying eggs and eating bugs.

So anyone else going to that Dalton chicken show this weekend?
