It's a sad day here at Apple Acres. Astrid (the beauty acting as my avatar) passed this morning from being egg bound. I feel so guilty because I wasn't home to check them over Tuesday night and I'm sure I would have noticed something was wrong. As it was I discovered it last night. I cleaned her up, cleared the egg, gave her some Poly-Vi-Sol and sprayed her with Vetercyn and left her in a crate with her buddies last night. This morning she was blue and not completely conscious. When I put her in the tub to clear her of anything that hadn't passed she died in my arms.

This chicken-keeping-thing is really hard sometimes.

The calls made it here safely so will have babies for sale as soon as we get some hatched, they arent laying yet but shouldnt be too long. Speaking of weird messages, I got a email from a guy wanting to buy a call for a magic show.
Is anyone else going to the kingsport animal sale saturday?

I'll be there, since they changed my schedule once again I can actually take my time that morning. Only will be looking though, not selling and I will try my best not to buy

How sad, I'm so sorry. You tried to save her and you were there for her when she went on, not many chickens get such a wonderful gift in life. Don't beat yourself up over not checking sooner, everything happens for a reason and at the time it is supposed to, you tried and that is all that counts.

I am considering starting a new cochin project but want some opinions first, the roo is a dark buff barred but is rather small other than his size he is correct in everything else. I bought him at a show as a pure buff chick but he since developed the white barring on the feathers. Opinions would be greatly appreciated

@tennesseeckn- I'm so sorry about Astrid, that stinks. I know the feeling of wanting to help but not being able to do so. I'm sure she passed happy and peacfully.

I should be there on Saturday with a bunch of Roos if it's not cruddy outside and I can figure out how to fit these cages in my car. I wish my truck was finished bleh.

Anyone else getting random private messages from people? I just got one asking how to kill a rooster since there are so many opinions... and they wanted mine.

I don't know whether it's safe to answer or not...

I got the same thing....wanted me to tell them..in detail...how to kill one. I tried to explain some of the important parts. They replied wanting to know if I could send some pics or videos!! I told them to go to YouTube. Now I am concerned. Wonder what they would be up to...let me see who it was. Well...I must have deleted them. Thanks for bringing this up for everyone!

I think it's a spammer, which is why I didn't answer. It could have been someone genuinely asking, but I never talk on any other threads but this one.

I'm glad you didn't send any videos, may be a way for them to get into your computer! Scary!
