tennesseeckn, condolences. she seemed quite health and happy in the pic! if im re incarnated as a chicken, can i come back as yours?

grawg, any pics of the pure and mixes?

chickie, pic of the new calls, and are they already as loud, but cute and cuddly as supposedly?

another odd thing, just me maybe??? i love the smell of muscovy ducks, though told some are put off by it.. theyre just so big the some ive seen, size of geese possibly, the drakes in one seller's cages, supposedly not full grown yet, and just young.

grawg;

Are you coming to the get together april 1st? If so I might get some fertile eggs from those ducks and try to hatch them for my father in law. I really dont think what he has going now will make it. Let me know how many you think you might have and what you want for them.

See? That's why I love this group. Y'all know just what to say. Thanks for the condolences. My coworkers had a hard time understanding why I needed someone to cover a class for me so I could take care of a chicken.

We probably should be more cautious about using first names, but it's hard when there's so many of us with "tennessee"-ish user names. I've even put my hometown on here and I should know better...

On a lighter note, I can now say that I survived a cardinal attack. I am always rescuing little birds that get stuck in the chicken run. Last night there was a cardinal in there and when I grabbed he screamed and BIT me! If he'd had teeth I'd be minus one finger now. After I let him go he flew about three feet away so he could sit on branch and glare at me.

@laughingdog both the calls I bought are male so they aren't loud at all, but my females are very very loud, worse than my guinea and that says alot. It depends on the individual duck itself as to the cuddly part, ive had one drake that we lost this year that would bite anyone and anything to the point he couldn't be shown. The females I have are abit more flighty than aggressive, the new drakes are just big babies lol they love people but prefer the swimming pool. Oddly my females are very broody and when one makes a nest they all do, as I have heard broodiness isn't a huge problem with calls but each one has it's own personality. Also the ducklings are extremely fragile. Will get pics when the weather clears up, its raining nonstop here.

It's a sad day here at Apple Acres. Astrid (the beauty acting as my avatar) passed this morning from being egg bound. I feel so guilty because I wasn't home to check them over Tuesday night and I'm sure I would have noticed something was wrong. As it was I discovered it last night. I cleaned her up, cleared the egg, gave her some Poly-Vi-Sol and sprayed her with Vetercyn and left her in a crate with her buddies last night. This morning she was blue and not completely conscious. When I put her in the tub to clear her of anything that hadn't passed she died in my arms.

This chicken-keeping-thing is really hard sometimes.

I am so sorry...it is terrible to loose our animals because they are really an extension of our family. I lost one the same way. Went out to gather eggs late one day and there she was already in pretty bad shape. I just held her. She was young and I know it was stressful for her. Prayers for you.

Tnbarnqueen;
I'll bring an assortment of dogs, brats, polish, smoked sausage, and other bun type meats LOL. oh...and ill bring the charcoal

We'll need one volunteer just for all the buns and condiments ( ketchup, mustard, onions, relish, etc.etc.etc.)

Everyone that hopes to come, please let barnqueen know so she can keep an approximate count and what foods are being brought. I'm sure we will have a great time.

@laughingdog for pictures you can look here I don't have any mixes, but the duck eggs would be as the khaki drake is dominant and gets all the rights that go along with that...

@bairo I'd like to come april 1st but early sping/april is usually a bad time a year for me to do much of anything like that for personal reasons. I will try to make it to the next one though. I work in Oak Ridge and could drop some eggs off with someone that is going.

@tennesseeckn Sorry for your loss. I know I'd hate to lose one of my quackers for any reason.

Oh,I almost forgot. People who want "things". I will be driving up to LEXINGTON KY on 3/31 AM. Hence why i won't be at the picnic. If you are near the 75 and can meet me, I can bring stuff with me.

Still have the big 4 hole cage available. and the nestboxes.

Show box and 1 bunny went to the Dalton show with Lori today. Hopefully they both sell LOL.

Bairo gets the other 2 metal cages and 1 waterer

xChickieX gets both feeders and some waterers, plus the incubator

Stang gets the incubator without a screw.

New Hamp Trio is pending. If anyone is driving down to the coast of GA or SC or at least "that direction" let me know as we are looking for transport options (PAID ONES).

When you stated out with dogs, brats, polish, smoked sausage, and other bun type meats......

My mind said, CANINES, CHILDREN, CHICKENS, smoked sausage and other RABBIT meats.

So baffled for a moment there.
