Here is my last post tonight. I was going to put everything in one post but thought it would be information overload. And I promise I am not trying to bump up the number of posts to win

I went in the TS in Morristown the other day & they were handing out papers about an Animal Swap Meet. It is scheduled for Saturday, September 15th from 9am-5pm. It simply states Buy Sell & Trade livestock. Didn't know if anyone else was aware of it so I just thought I would mention it.

Pretty sure the second one from the bottom is a roo...other does look like a pullet so far.
Yes....the swap should be in their parking lot...that is where it was before...that one was a flop cause they never told anyone about it!

So are you for sure you have a pair? I was thinking that but wasn't sure. I've not been into chickens long enough to really know what I am doing.

I can't physically tell until they are a couple of months older. We just assume they are because one is bigger than the other one. They are sooooo cute. They have feathers on both feet now. And they get up on the roost by themselves. (more than my five month old silver laced wyandottes that I have to pick up and put on the roost every night). They got mealworms yesterday and you would have thought they were mad crazy. They like those worms.

Could you post a photo of how you keep them? I love seeing ducks on the sales list, but my husband keeps saying no because we don't have the pond. He keeps saying "one day." I'd love to show him and scream "One day came sweetheart."

Do you want a photo of the pen? Feeding "zone" and kiddie pool and such? If you look at my profile I have quite a few pictures in there of the ducks.

At this point I only herd them in at night and they free range from 7:30am - 9pm. So I will rotate the pool and water pans around the yard along with the feed bowl. Rotating is fairly important to keep heavy traffic areas looking fresh.

If you are getting ducks for eggs and garden/bug clean-up I would suggest the runner, khaki campbell, and welsh harlequin breeds. The pekin and rouen, both of which are very common in this area, are too heavy to be an effective egg laying/foraging duck.

@bairo Yup eating duck eggs most every day. I have three more females from my hatch and they should be coming online sometime this fall.

I looked at your photos. Love love love those ducks. They are amazing. I just want to watch them waddle around. I would love to see their pool and feeding zone. Is the coop that you have in your photos for them? And as a final thought, I froze when I saw the black racer. Not even funny. I have a photo of my dad after he killed one. The racer was in the bird house ghords going hole to hole. My dad was on the ground beside the house going through the tool shed. He reached for a garden hoe just in time to turn around and kill it. It had flew down the pole and was coming straight for him. They scare me to death. Black snakes are nothing - racers are a heart attack waiting to happen. I told my husband about your ducks and how you didn't have to have a pond. He said "no." Help me convince him.

Okay here's the only 2 EEs I kept. I am really hoping one is a pullet but it is probably wishful thinking. I am posting pics to see who bursts my bubble first.

Sorry not the best pictures but it was getting late. They are 13 weeks old. Its hard to tell in the pics but one's comb is red & the others is not. I checked the hen I think they came from & she does not have very round saddle feathers. I am almost positive the one on the right in firs pic is a roo but I don't know about the other one. Thanks

In this pic you can see the difference in their tail feathers. Chick A is on top
and Chick B's back & tail.

The one I think for sure is a pullet is A. But, I had one that I thoguht was a roo that has the same tail feathers as B. That one I thought was a roo lays me a blue egg every day.

Thanks for the replies about the EEs. I hope at least one is a pullet. I gave the rest away: 2 pullets to mother-in-law and 5 or so I thought was cockerels. I really want one of these to be a pullet because they are not the usual red/copper color.

I might be able to get better pictures today if I get my other outside stuff done.

I swung by our Morristown TSC today and just happened to catch Jake, the manager there. He is excited about the swap meet next weekend. He said they have done some good advertiseerment. They even got the woman who organizes the one in Kingsport..which is huge..to come down and help with some PR. They are not charging for spaces this time mainly because they know there may not be a lot of people show up at the first couple. But....he said they will just keep trying to have them and they will grow like Kinsports did. I have tried a few times to get a space there and they fill up so quick have not been successful.
I noticed they have Rooster Booster products! A lot of vitamins and supplements for chickens. Jake is trying to get Oxine but the headquarters are digging their heels in on that so far.
The hours is 9-2. If you have questions call Kayla at 865-228-8447. She is coordinating the swap. It will be to the right of the parking lot when you enter.
They are also having a Tractor Show on Oct. 6....8-4....call store at 423-581-6000 for more details. Some time after that a big cook-out.
Well..everyone have a good and safe weekend. I am going to middle TN and in hopes the weather is nice.

Had a good 1st day at the fair, my solid senior doe got BOV of 26.

Heard there will be a guy with 470 something cochins this year

I hear there will be some for sale so will be buying me some cochins!!! lol

Bairo - Frederick isn't a show cock, his tail is not right for a cochin... oh wait, sorry I meant tennesseeckn...

So, I may be getting me a replacement cock... anyone want a friendly Cochin rooster? He's still very easy to handle and a big gentleman to the ladies...
