Yeah, I wonder if it's a protein deficiency of the lack of what scratch has in it... I think they don't have enough in their diet to produce the egg and the shell, so I'm hoping this will help... will let them out later today to free range as well to get some bugs etc. I don't let them out all day because they get stuck in places and get confused easily and then I have to chase them around!

Free ranging is a near perfect way of correcting dietary issues. They know what they need and they find it. The only reason it is "near perfect" is because of preditors and neighbors and such. I'd like to have a place where I had enough land to just not worry and let them run free... at least my average quality birds. I don't think I'd dare let my Euro birds do that without some LGDs, cameras, electrified barbed topped chainlink... ect ect... LOL

BTW, I don't think I have enough mealworms, but I could mail you some beetles if you wanted to breed your own.

x2... Good job. Sounds like you are predator proof.

x3. Excellent! We also have a solar powered system the only thing with ours is if we have several cloudy days it can loose its charge. Our coop is also located in the woods but we have not put in all the predator precautions you have but so far so good. Our coop was a take on one like yours we saw for sale online. We built ours out of materials we had around the house & designed it to cut costs. The back window in ours is a breaker box cover, the door came out of an old house & the front window is a $5 salvage yard find. LOL

I'll leave the breeding of bugs to you! I could just imagine the look on my husbands face if I brought bugs in from an envelope and said "look hunny, I'm going to be breeding bugs now!"

ok, how do you use the powered netting? is it more for keeping them in a certain area? what is the cost of all the stuff?

That's awful. Industrial accident sounded bad enough, but it sounds like it doesn't even touch what you're going, through. I'm glad you're got a good support system. Let me know if there's anything I can do.

I'm so glad I'm not from Knoxville. lol. I'm sorry you were treated poorly there. Really, how can any town be snobbish that hosts the Tennessee Valley Fair?

x2 here. I am originally from Knoxville but have been gone for over 20 years now. So I don't consider myself a Knoxvillian anymore. I still go there quite often but usually do not venture to the Turkey Creek side very much. IMO the farther west you go the worse it gets. I am sorry people reacted badly to you.

I just have the solar powered electric fence with 2 wires run around the perimeter of our lot. I can't remember the cost on our fence charger over a $100 but less than $200...I think.

No...you dont have to go through all that, I was just trying to look at alternates if the one your talking about ended up being in a shady area. Thats really all I'm concerned with. I prefer not to have to find a place to hide my holster and it's not comfortable sitting down with it, LOL

You will fit in great with my hubby & the holster thing! And going by the parks is not any trouble for me. I will be going really close to one on Friday & the other one is just a few miles away. The Loves Creek one has shade...at least I am almost positive. I hate to keep harping on the Loves Creek one and it turn out to be a flop but I truly think its the better of the two. I will go get pics, check to see if its possible to schedule & everyone can decide. BTW $20 for a good quality POL is not a bad price IMO (I have paid more for far less in the past).

Thank you. And you are right... it is more west K-town than other parts. Vain people who apparently don't know how to not stare with a look of disgust. It is ok... karma is a b.......
