Just trying to keep track so that I do not miss anybody's vote.

From here on out I will trust my gut. If I get a bad vibe I will listen to it & not be Smeagol, "We wants it, we needs it. Must have the precious."

I have developed a new tougher mindset since I got into chickens.
#1 NEVER trust anyone who says "Oh, ya, sure, this is what they are"
#2 NEVER go looking for one breed and settle for something else.
#3 ALWAYS take notice of EVERYTHING, cleanliness, water supply, feed, how crowded they are, etc, etc.
#4 WATCH out for anything that seems too good to be true.
#5 and must important. DO NOT wear your heart on your sleeve, better to walk away and not look back,
than buying something you feel sorry for and bring something home you CAN NOT get ride of.

When I first started I would buy just about anything, and it lead to LOTS of problems and heart ache.

excellent advice.

Its a day early but I am going to update pics of Orps from Daphne. They are right at 4 weeks now.

My original guess of 3 to 1 in favor of pullets is now being questioned. I think maybe 50/50...the black one has me guessing. I also updated their folder on my profile page with close ups & more pics.

Littlechicklet...Oooh. Good news. The little blue is looking more girly this week! I'm still on the fence about the second black, too.

I have a friend that has decided that since she has a nice, new patio that she doesn't want chickens anymore and wants to rehome them. They are a hatchery mix, RIR, buff orps, Leghorns, and such.

I asked her if she was wanting to sell them or just give them away and haven't heard back. They are a about a year and a half old. I can get her contact info if anyone is interested.

I'm guessing Auraucanas. (Only blue-egg gene I think you don't have) You'd be the only person I personally knew with them!

If bairo gets Araucanas then some day I may offer a home to an unwanted cockerel!

I would love to cross Ameraucanas & Araucanas to produce muffs, beards and rumpless blue egg layers with slate colored legs (white or yellow legs are not pleasing to me). Of course I am dreaming big its the Smeagol in me!

tennesseeckn- the black one has me guessing but time will tell (wish I had patience).

Which ones did you get?!

All the ones you saw in the back of the van are now sleeping in my coop! I'm very happy. They are all happy and healthy. Survived the trip just fine. The cuckoo marans was acting a little strange but turns out after she made a beeline for a nesting box, i realized why she was being so vocal....nice egg waiting for me!

It was nice to meet you today!

Rodney, thanks so much for the healthy and beautiful birds!!

Here is what I found out: They got them off craigslist from someone in Sweetwater. She wouldn't say who. They've been raising chickens for about two years. She has had some die. They are big into hatching. They have a whole building for incubators. She offered to give me some new chics. I declined.

Two remaining goldens look good. Eyes look good. Butt looks good. However, one of my silver-laced from the other run has a pasty butt. Her eyes look good, but her butt is matted.

I will not buy from craigslist again. I have learned a very expensive lesson - both financially and emotionally. I have two business cards from breeders. Their poultry looked really healthy. I will stick to the ones I know are good. I don't know enough to be putting all my chickens at risk.

We got the vaccine (ILT? Is that what it is called) and were going to vaccinate today. We decided to wait until the weather was better since it is so yucky outside today.
"They are big into hatching, they have a building full of incubators"

I would say with almost absolute certainty that they are infected with Fowl Cholera. Treat with most any sulfa antibiotic or penicillin. You can treat with tetracycline but that requires IM injection along with in the water at the same time. How many birds do you have??
