In NC, and I went to church this morning. Funny thing is several people walked up to me and said "I love watching you post photos of your chickens on facebook." Too funny.

@ stang, LOVE the baby rabbits. I wanted the photos posted. I love seeing them change.

tnchickenut- glad I could provide a good laugh because a LOL always makes me feel better...hope it did for you too.

bairo- thanks about the coop. They are big time now even have a digital temp gauge!

stang- about the cost of getting things done around here by the time the day is done we are too stiff & stove up to pay or accept payment. It would have been different a few years ago

If you get tired of my weekly updates on the Orps please let me know. They are now 5 weeks old & outside in their new house. The temperature seems to being holding very good so far. I turned the heat lamp off today & just put it back on (I have a dimmer switch hooked up to it so I can adjust it). I am still holding out for my initial call of 3 to 1 but am having doubts.

As always I updated their folder with more pics.

The blacks: questionable on left, pullet on right

The blues: standing head up in back cockerel & head down in front runt (pullet?)

I'd say go ahead and either pull them off the heat lamp or put it on a timer to just run from about 2 am to 5 am. You dont have very much time left to get them ready for the real cold weather. Ive got my three week olds on a timer just after midnight now for the same reason...they need to be ready for the cold.

I have mine dimmed way down so its not putting out as much heat. I thought I would gradually start weaning them: off during the day (unless its really cold) and on low at night. Will this work the same as on full for a few hours?

Blaine, he had them on CL... I bought the group, he had them buy all or none priced... After I figure out which ones I don't need I'll let ya'll know which ones I'm selling (if any) there is an extra rooster!

I saw those on there for 60.00 I have been looking for some too. Well not really, but I still look. There is no room in the inn right now for more chickens at my house. I hatched out two bantam calico cochins that are about 8 weeks old. I will have to post pictures because I don't know if the are boy or girl. I know you are the chicken gender guru!
