I keep reading that the chicks are hard to raise..."delicate and losses are expected" I was thinking of getting some eggs in the spring and taking my chances with the genders maybe. But I don't want to have them hatch and then lose them

Hmmm Sebright/OEGB crosses...sounds interesting...you must send me pix. You are such a bad influence!

I know they are hard to breed....that is sorta the reason I want to try them. That and the fact that they are beautiful little birds. And they can get along with OEGB. I would like to attempt to breed some for the challenge of it and see if I can expand the flock without buying more.

Thanks for all the info. I really hope there will be some at the show this Saturday. I am still trying to work out the Nov 10th show.

Forgot people say that... here is the ONLY reason they die... they are so small they starve. The chick crumbles are too big for them... solution? grind the feed. Yes, get a cheap coffee grinder (yard sale, dollar store, goodwill) and make their feed into dust.

I put that on BYC years ago. People don't listen. LOL!!!

AHHHH! I see. This is what My Pet Chicken has on their site.

Sebright chicks have a reputation for being difficult to rear, although we have not found that to be true with our lines. The eggs we're offering are truly lovely. They will not disappoint you

So maybe I can do it. Or I can convince some certain owner of Sebright/OEGB crosses to sell me a pullet or two

to get me started. We could cross Mille Fleur's in and call them Mille Brights or SeFleur's

You are out of luck. I can do hatching eggs, but I only kept one Cracker Jack hen and the OEGB roo. Where were you when I was trying to sell those trios of cracker jacks!?!?! I ended up giving them away. I kept the one. She was special.

AJ ..... Where oh where did you go?

Please repeat the time and place for the picnic

I have been keeping half a count, looks like about 14 so far? We usually bring our own drinks and I'll bring burgers or chops or hot dogs or a combination. Someone has to vol. to grab cups, plates, napkins....other than that just bring whatever you feel like making. Nothing fancy just chime in with whatever. Don't worry about lasagna though, I'll be there this time LOL I just have to find a cooler to bring our drinks....kim's going to kill me when she figures out I turned them all into incubators

Think AJ and Terry disappeared to the same place? I will call her in the morning if we have not heard from her by then. Don't know what I did with AJ's # but someone has it.

Hannah; have you talked to Lori or Nella in a while? Thinking about everyone got me thinking of them as well. I know Cyber finally chimed back in last week.

I was still living miserably in the city. Now that we have moved out in the country....I am a much happier camper. And I am finally getting to do what I have wanted to do for years. I just hope I can do it. lol

For anyone curious about making an incubator

The first link is something I want to try, so you might want to wait and let me take the fall if it does not work.

The second link is more or less what I do now. Except I use a real cooler and have played around with different media for heat stabilization.
