Bad bad night. Tommy went hunting with two of his girls. (one we didn't own - he was testing her to see if he wanted to buy her). The one we didn't own stepped on a stick and cut her foot wide open. (fyi, he doesn't kill - he just trains them and let's them tree) He took her to the emergency vet, and they wanted $1,500 for a blood transfusion. WHAT????? They got her stiched up for $200. He's taken her to our regular vet right now. I guess we bought her. lol

I'm tired.

Side note: If I am bringing napkins, plates, forks and spooons etc. - how many should I account for? (including spouses/mates)

Rooster Booster makes a red blood cell builder that may help the dog replace blood loss quicker. Also any high food high in iron like chicken and cow liver. Hope it gets better. For future reference for anyone....always carry a roll of vet wrap with you. You would not believe how handy it can be in an accident situation be it animal or human.

Rude people are everywhere, but for some reason, there are more on BYC and they are ALLOWED to be rude, it is you defending yourself that will get you suspended. True story.

I live near Ron Presley... anyone really into breeding enough to know his name? I met up with him once and talked chicken... I mentioned something about getting a certain breed from a certain BYCer (who on BYC at the time was reputed to be the center of all things ____ (enter breed name here - keeping it legal)) and he looked disgusted and said "Uggck, no." To this day I wish I had asked to delve deeper. I hatched those eggs and sold every last one... they were not to SOP standard. SOOOOO point is, they (in general) don't know squat. The ones who talk the biggest usually know the least.

Sorry it soo long since I replyed. 65 posts since I was on yesterday. The FF is extremely high in probodics,and the post i was talking about, the OT is bring back her flock from the brink of death. I could not believe the pictures after only 3 weeks on the FF. It's also used a lot for hogs from what I've read-1st time I have heard of it with equines, it was not until I was reading this,https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/newestpost/709707, that I found out I also works on chickens. when I was reading here at E TN that japs sometimes starve because the feed was too large, I thought that It would be a perfect solution to the problem, that combined with all those lovely probodics formed at the same time--sounds like kefir for birds.

Are you talking about 'Fat Feed"? I have used that to put weight on my horses if they needed it. I think it came from our coop. Also..I have used pig starter for chicks. Maybe that is a solution to getting more weight on my guys. Glad you brought that up!

Uh uhhhh... you better not beat me to a grey call drake!! lol. I lost my two drakes to a preditor and need at least one replacement... I'll be pick, though, they are for showing. I may just sit back and wait to hatch some more eggs later. I got connections. ) LOL 

At least that is what I SHOULD do at this time

Lol, I lost 2 drakes to a fox this summer. I have 3 hens and one drake and the girls are not happy.....i am sure he is tickled though. I have white, lavenders and a blue. I just love them . And man can they fly

Yes they can. I had a sport "chocolate sorta" drake who flew into the dog lot... dogs broke both his legs and so I put him down rather than torture him and still not be certain to fix him. Then I had two true grey drakes and only one hen. She went broody and hatched herself a baby... it was a girl, and then a oppossum killed the two boys... so now I only have the two girls, and no, they are not happy. Waterfowl NEED breeding sets to be happy. People don't realize that sometimes.

Ya'll jinxed me!!! 6 more kittens were born in my briars last night. (Yes, I snuck in and got a peek) Momma is wild and had the last litter in the woods... this time she irs closer to the house (probably because she is always hunting around the coops) And of course they are all black and grey... that is all I get from those wild cats, means they are inbreeding, doesn't it? generations of the same colors....

Not really...black is a very dominant color in cats. But I would try to catch them asap. I use large dog carriers. I set it up near them and feed mom at the front of it gradually moving it to the back. By the time the kittens can toddle around after mom and go in with her I just close the door when they are in enjoying their food. But...you have to be a bit quick in latching it. You would not believe how hard an excited cat can hit the door. I trapped over 20 cats at one mans house that where feral. This was the easiest. You just have to make them comfortable with going inside and you being near.Kittens tame really quick. The older ones I pick up just as soon as the vet will let me have them while they are still drowsy and carry them around...wool them around and you would not believe how much easier that makes socializing them. This is why when with the rescue I got all the wild cats and dogs. But it was nice to see them make the journey to being tame and they make very good pets compared to other cats.

I have tamed almost all the other kittens before.... it's the mommas (two) that are the problem... thus more kittens. The momma is used to me, for all purposes they are "mine" and not all that wild, but wild enough to not be touched. She and the tom used to come up on the porch... I think my own pet cats stopped that. lol. Plus there is food out under the coops. lol

I might try the kennel idea. I need to make her a house out there... her babies are out in the open... I don't think she'll keep them there long. They were just born today. I want to let her nurse the first week or two and then I MAY take over. Depends on how she is taking me being around the babies. I usually start holding the babies at 2 days old and get the mommas used to me touching them. It helps ALOT in caring for them. Then I'll be going back to PPAW!!!! UGH!!! They are going to think I'm a hoarder, but I just can't catch momma kitty!! (that is what she answers to)

and here I thought I was keeping up! LOL But I do wonder if the hog feed would be a good treat for them. It does have corn in it but is fine ground.
I was feeling so good Wed. but did start noticing the smog/dust yesterday evening and it is really bad here today . I had to go to the doctor today....so ....I am back to where I was several days ago. This is really getting old. I won't get to make it to the picnic...real bummer. But I have got to get over this before the Newport Show. Will be there if DH had to wheel me in. I am going to have young chicks and wondering what the almanac says about the weather that weekend. I wish they would move it to the first weekend of Oct when it has not started getting so cold.
I had a real odd thing happen in my incubator....These two chickens...somehow threw a solid white chick. The top hen is my chocolate crele polish I have been working on. I am really liking them but still have a bit more work to go. The pic does not show the chocolate coloration in their feathering. Just when I think I have figured something out genetically....it changes!

Went out to find one of my lavender shilkie juveniles almost dead. That breed is so dumb sometimes. I am positive they had huddled up, which they are notorious for, and this one was smaller getting caught on the bottom. I am going to have to cull it. This just sucks. Usually they get under the brooder from Bario where the heat light is. By the way. This thing is wonderful for the chickens to get under when it is cold. I am wondering if some of the bigger birds crawled under and took up too much space for the silkies to get in. Buggers!!!

And you guys are making me soooooooooo hungry with all the food you are taking to the picnic!!!!!!
