I never let more than one breed out at a time.
My boys are greedy and want ALL the girls for themselves.

When they are out they will even go up to the other pens and flirt through the fence.
And heaven help if one of the free girls walks up to a pen to talk to the neighbors.
Talking about jealous.
I meant layer breed (or breed didn't want have a rooster for) with breeders. So, I had my SLW and columbian bantams with my RIR breeders. The bantams and SLW lay small eggs, and the RIR's layed huge brown eggs... so I was able to have a variety of chickens but not worry about accidentally incubating a mix.

Me too.....although I dont think I have run anyone off in at least a couple weeks ;)
I can't say that I haven't...

Question: When we bought our four silverlaced wyandottes, we got them from a lady that shows her chickens. She was seriously into it. She sold us the girls because they weren't as BIG as she wanted. These girls were huge compared to our goldenlaced. She said she fed them ________ to make them that big. (we assumed it was a steriod) Those girls are gorgeous now. What was she giving them to make them so big?

I tried to email them to ask, but they won't return my email now.
probably a high percentage of BOSS and / or cat food. I dont believe in cat food at all (too easy to over do it on the protein and other things)

I do try and keep a little BOSS mixed with scratch and will grind some into the food as well if I have some failure to thrive or very skinny chickens or they are having a difficult molt.

Speaking of special food.

Last night when I got to GF's house she was mixing up some special stuff for her Scruffy dog.
Scruffy is about 14 or so and has been having a hard time eating.
She has been loosing weight.

So Cindy was softening some crunchy food in warm water.
I told her to add a couple of eggs for protein.
Then we looked in the fridge and added cottage cheese and a couple of other soft left overs.

It really looked disgusting.
Scruffy cleaned her bowl.
That is the most she has ate at one time in weeks.

You should know by now when you post stuff like that, I am going to ask questions. What is BOSS?

That little gray one is the cutest thing I've seen in a long time. Do you know how to sex them? We had to wait until things grew - thus the name change from Thelma and Louise to Thumper and Louie. lol
HEHE, blue Amy, blue... I have been checking them to see if I can tell yet... Not quite there, but in about another week or 2 should have an idea...
