Okay I can't resist. This is the EE cockerel we gave to my mother-in-law. I am not an EE expert but I think he turned out very pretty. I love his beard but wish he had a pea comb.

@tnchicknut..........Wish mine would come out...I have an air rifle too and that would tickle me to have targets to shoot at. I was afraid it was not an adult. They reproduce every 26 days...it is so strange they multiply quicker than mice. I use to raise capped rats and fancy mice...chicken math? You ought to do rat/mice math. I had a few friends who where more than happy to take the extras off my hands for their pets. I am sure I will be keeping the trap set for a long while. It actually caught it's front leg...I was surprised it had not chewed it off.

@Stang...that looks wonderful...isn't it a great feeling when us girls can do things on our own?? I use to build a lot and did all the landscaping, which use to be extensive. But my knees kept me from doing a lot of things the past several years. Now that I have new knees maybe I can go back to it!! If there is a greenhouse supply near you or you can order online...I will get the company for you..shade cloth is inexpensive and it will give the chickens light shade.

I am really thinking about the Iowa Blues..they really look nice. But...I have got to stay focused on what I am working on right now. I really like the Legbars as well....but...got enough to keep me busy.
@Amenfarm.....every time you blink 10 more posts appear.

OK....I cannot decide if this is going to be a splash or blue. It was light blue when it hatched and came from a splash hen and white roo which I think gives only blue or white.

This is Cutie Pie...she is the one the rat got ahold of...she was so brave taking her first bath.

I am glad Cutie Pie made it! she is pretty

Yup! It's 8'x10' and will be growing out my Wyandottes and Australorps.
Wow...very proud of you!! You did that yourself

It looks good. One of those would make a good summer grow out for the meaties too.

Stang, you're my hero! That looks great!

Barnqueen, I am AMAZED at the size of that rat! I would never have suspected it could get even bigger. I'll stop complaining about the five million field mice my cat has caught, now. I'm thinking your instincts are right on and your baby is blue. Cutie Pie is awesome. I'd never seen a barred poof before!

Chigger, I'm glad everything turned out OK. It's a good thing you thought to unload before you walked up. I probably wouldn't have and ended up either in jail or on the 6:00 news.

ETA: Chicklet, I'm not an expert on EE's, but that boy sure is handsome. His cream hackles are cool.

It was not an easy feat! I hated hammering those darn steeples in, almost squished my thumb twice but I did enjoy using Steven's power tools! I forgot to eat lunch so when I finished in 2 hours I was sore and shaky... but I'm happy so far with the results, next comes the frames for doors and places to staple the hardware cloth on..

Hey guys, incubation question... when you set eggs do you count the day you set them as day 1 or day 0? I'm about to candle them and put them into individual egg carton holes hoping they'll have an easier time finding the air sac...

ok peeps....the excited rookie is about to explode.

Please forgive me for my excited nature. And keep your fingers crossed for the rest of the crew. These are Serama eggs.

Count the next day as day 1. I have incubated at 99 this time so I am curious to see if the temp affects the hen to roo ration. I have 2 eggs internally pipped. I have worried and worried over my columbian sillkie eggs. The air sacs are running down the side of the egg. It looks like the chicks are still moving but I know I will have to take them out because there is no way they can rotate to zip. I think I am going to start letting my eggs sit 18 -24 hrs. from now on. If you have detached air sacs they can sometimes correct themselves by doing that and when put in incubator need to be sit straight up because when it reattaches it is very fragile. Also you don't candle until at least day 10 and then at LD if you feel you need to. The article I read on this was very interesting.
