Eastern Washington

After calling around a bit, I was referred to Dr. Ponti in Otis Orchards. I have an appointment with him tomorrow morning. We're looking after Rosie as best we can, but there's been no change in her prolapse since it happened Saturday morning. It's worth it to us for our peace of mind to have her at least looked at.
Make sure you see Jerry and no one else. He is only one that would have any knowledge at all.

We actually ended up seeing Dr. Robinson, which I was a little apprehensive about, but he was great with Rosie, got her all cleaned up, removed some dead tissue and sutured her prolapse back in place. She didn't make a peep, didn't struggle, and required no sedation, they all said she was one of the best behaved chickens they've ever treated.
So now we keep her in the dark like we have been to discourage further laying, and see if we can keep the sutures in for a week. Her vent already looks tons better and she was starting to pull it back in on her own, so I'm hopeful.

Ha, ha. You are in the wrong place for mental help!
Goat math has struck me. I now have 4 goats and one may be pregnant and I have my name on a list for an Alpine/Nubian kid who should be born in March or April.
Also, on Thursday I am hoping to get 3 turkeys, 7 guinea, 5 ducks and some more chickens.
Oh boy! Goats are GONNA happen...they just are!!! They will have to wait til I can build a shelter though. I am gonna get more chicks and probably ducks and a couple geese this Spring. Guineas and turkeys have also piqued my interest!! I'm hopeless

Get Dwarf Nigerians. They'll sleep in a doghouse. I found an igloo style dog house that fits two on craigslist for $30.

I forgot to mention that I am also getting two Icelandic ewes in the summer. Hubby finally put a stop to all further animal acquisitions. So now I have to wait until next year to get bees. He's right, tho. We still have to do fencing and shelters for everything we already have!

So glad to hear your hen is doing better.

Nigerians are definitely at the top of the list!!! I thought it would be best to start with the little ones. My hands cramp up and can get painful due to a nerve disease so hopefully milking a smaller goat will be managable. Therefore, only one freshened doe to start with! I've been looking at dog houses on CL and contemplating them for geese and ducks but hadn't really thought about them for goats, which is funny since that is what our single pygmy lived in when I was a teenager (my dog was his buddy till she disappeared and he got very lonely). I've been collecting pallets to make a shelter, but, unfortunately, my hubby needs to help with that

Congrats on the Icelandic ewes!! They are gorgeous in the pictures!! My hubby is currently pulling the disgruntled "whatever" on animals, but I know I need to tread lightly

Thanks. We love her a lot. I'm still a little worried about her, she feels thin when I examine her. Sutures are coming out Sunday, so here's hoping!
