Hi everyone- I am a chicken newbie! I am building a coop this weekend and looking to get 4-5 chickens soon! I am wondering where to find 4-6 month old pullets in the Spokane/CDA area? I am interested in Orpingtons, Wyandotte, Plymouth Rocks, Rhode Island Reds, and or Sussex (and open to suggestions on other breeds)

Any suggestions on local breeders etc for young layer pullets? Although cute (and I bet fun), I would like to skip the brooding of chicks phase-- maybe next year. . .
Thanks for any input

You might try Nicole, aka Chefswifey. She has lots of chickens and may have some pullets she's willing to part with, since she seems to always be hatching more! :D

Hi! I'm a newbie without chickens yet as well. I've never been to a poultry show, but am thinking you may be able to get some good leads at a show. I keep reading that hatchery chicks are inferior to breeders' chicks, but if you just want a few backyard egg layers, maybe it doesn't matter. If you want show quality, maybe go to the "Breeds & genetics" forum, and search for a thread on that particular breed. There will be lots of people there to guide you. I think there's a "for sale" forum as well which may be of help. Keep in mind that if you don't socialize chicks when they're babies, they'll never be the sweet girls you might hope for. At least that's what I've read.
Good luck to you. I'm so confused that I've already cancelled my chick order, then re-ordered. My coop is almost done, and the run is almost finished. One thing for sure is the snow is almost gone!!!

Hi all! Thought I would check it out here, the big WA thread moves FAST! I'm located in Spokane and currently have a hodge podge of all different breeds in my flock, and 14 Ameracaunas on the way!

Welcome to all the ones who have joined our awesome thread. I was pleasantly surprised to see 58 new posts since the last time I was here!

I can't believe I'm going to miss that poultry show in Monroe. I totally forgot to keep track of it by getting it on our calendar and hubby has us going to a friends' house to watch a UFC fight.

Oh, well. I guess I owe him since I just got 6 new chicks (EE's), 3 guineas, 2 turkeys and 5 ducks! We already have 10 one year old hens (our first) and 4 brand new goats! As you can see, I need serious help too (just like LovintheChickyPoos) but it just makes me grin ear to ear every day to see them all. ESPECIALLY the ducks. They seem to have such personalities or something. They are actually interested in people. I mean, they are incredibly messy and need more attention to keep them in constant supply of clean water and bedding but when you look at them you just say, "You are disgusting and stinky but you are so cute it doesn't matter." --Can you tell I'm in love?

Well, I went out to feed and I have one of my black hens on a nest and Babe, one of my young red hens on Blondie's eggs I gave her. Blondie has shown no interest in eggs or nests in the past couple days but if her sister, Babe wants to hatch some, Ill let her!

Seems to me like spring is just around the corner with all this chick talk! I just hatched 15 black australorp/blue copper maran chicks! And next are gonna be some olive eggers and blue copper marans! Anybody know of where to get some Easter egger hens or pullets? I only have 4 hens and would like some more! From the yakima area. :)
