Eating a Peacock

I figure it's all just a mental block. I love my horses, yet have no problem with folks who want to eat horse. The same goes with dogs and cats. Just don't steal them from somebody who loves their pets. Squirrel? I've eaten it, just preferred them to be shot with a .22 or something, hate pulling the shot out of my dinner, and probably ate more lead that way than I really care to know about... Should I mention, though, that a squirrel is a fuzzy tailed rat? Might as well eat rats and mice, too! But I won't, because there is that blasted mental block again.
I agree about the mental block thing... As for the squirrels, my dad calls them tree rats.

So... you would eat a spider???

Obviously, he's never had one as a pet. (They make great pets if you get them young enough.)
Rats make good pets, too. Some people have raccoons as pets and love them. After seeing what a wild raccoon will do to poultry, I don't see them as 'cute'.

I personally love squirrels. I just think it is funny how he calls them tree rats. My dad did have a pet raccoon when he was younger. I still like raccoons even though they killed my favorite peacock, the only raccoons I don't like are the ones that kill people's pets, the others I like... At my grandmas there is an albino squirrel that we see every now and then. Squirrels are so soft...I job shadowed at a wildlife rescue and got to hold a baby squirrel while feeding it. It was so cool!
Here is a photo of the albino squirrel...

I prefer to eat what I have raised. You know what you are eating. I saw a cattle buyer one time buying dog food animals and selling them to butcher place for people to eat so I am always glad to know what I am eating and that it is dressed clean and not going to make us sick and it was healthy before butchered for food.

This is a fun thread to read. I feel the same way about my geese as most of you do about your peacocks.

we can't eat the geese either. We just raise fryer chickens to butcher. We butcher only roosters too. Our turkeys we try to just dress the males too and we will sell some pairs so that works out well.

Glad to meet more people who appreciate geese as pets.

I really, really love my geese and ducks, but I can and will eat them, just like my peas if I become over run with them. I figure that's a better end for them than having them go off with someone who won't take care of them, as is so often the case.
