So.... I am trying to figure out exactly how to process my Coturnix. I read through the forum by Monarch23 but the guys are telling me the skin will peel off and there wont be any plucking involved so I was looking for pictures of that. I am not the best at killing them since I'm raising them but want to know exactly what I am doing so it goes quickly and I don't chicken out.....

OK so anyways, I found a person who was processing buttons? Does anyone do this? If so why? I can't imagine there being any meat and they are SO tiny I would think it would be harder to do than it would be worth.

The thought that it was a hoax crossed my mind but just thought I'd ask...

I don't skin my corturnix because they are so easy to dry pluck, especially if you kill them around 8 weeks before their first molt.
To kill them, I hang them upside down in a cone made from a 2 litre soda bottle, attached to the side of one of the coops, then I cut their throats and let them bleed a second. It is never easy to kill them but fast and don't hesitate or give yourself time to think about it and you will do alright.
As for the buttons, I don't have any but I can't see processing anything smaller than a corturnix.

I tried to tell DH I want the skin on for my recipe that I'm dying to try so I will be plucking some of them for sure. His friend says we need to dip them in hot water? Isn't that a chicken thing?

The skin is very thin, usually it shreads during plucking. Hot water loosens up the feathers, but i don't think it's used much for quail.

I thought it was for chickens and not quail, but he's helping us clean them so I want to know what i'm talking about. Thank you!

You can always wrap them in bacon if the skin does come off....
