Eating Fertile Eggs

THANK YOU! You have very likely saved "Noodles" life. He was headed for chicken and noodles if we could not find a home for him. My husband tends them during the day while I work and he has taken a liking to him. Your comments have really eased my mind, thanks again.

My chickens are not free range and dont get many greens. They are in a coop and run set-up.

The chickens in your coop also have a chance to catch bugs and mice and lizards and other little critters that pass their way. This makes nice rich eggs. It really has nothing to do with fertility.

Factory hens don't get that opportunity. They are fed a ration that is formulated to have the maxium usage and least waste (less poop). They thought they were making a better egg. Many still do. Sadly, they are not.

On what day can you tell they are fertilized? Like if you crack open a freshly laid egg, and one that has been sitting in the coop a day cuz you missed it, can you tell the difference?

My last rooster was gay so our eggs were never fertilzed. Our new chickens aren't laying yet.

Most of the eggs we eat are fertile and taste great, but we don't talk about it. I personally could care less, but DH gets a little squeamish when it comes to the whole, the rooster did what to that egg.... hahahaha.... How I love my hubby!
