Eating former pets

I've eaten banties. Single serving birds or great for making stock out of if you're not a fan of eating things like chicken wings. Since they are probably older birds, they will make a very flavorful stock! If you want to reduce processing time, you can always skin them. Personally, I prefer to butcher my birds over finding them new homes, as then I know they had a good life.

I eat all my extra or cull cockerels - does not matter the size - bantam cochins, rosecombs or my large fowl.

Bantam cochins make great single person meals. The last batch I did, I cooked (ok DH BBQ'ed them) and we flavored each one different, then we each got a half.

Skin them, boil them, pick out the bones, add noodles, onion, celery, salt, pepper and garlic. Spoon into bowls, serve with hot garlic bread.............life is darn good.

One of our yard Silkies is sitting on a clutch right now that'll most likely all end up as dinner.

I'm so glad you asked that question. I have 5 banty roos that I've been considering for the fridge, since they've become very noisy and a few are agressive. I just wasn't sure they made for "good eats".
I'm wondering now if I can treat them as I do Cornish game hens, and butterfly and grill them under a cast iron skillet. Yummy!

I butchered four bantam cochins two weeks ago. They made delicious soup that I canned. They were mean little roos and that made it easier. I just skinned them. Good luck. Karen
