ebay 6 eggs...$224.74 current bid

Any time you put something on auction and it brings a high price it generates interest and comment. I dont think that is an indication of either jealousy or eny as much as a comment of interest or amazement. Horses bring millions, that creates comment, cows bring hundreds of thousands etc.

To someone these eggs are abviously worth the money. They are not worth that much to me, but obvioulsy they are to someone. It is just fine that it garners comment on a poultry site. If we were a beef site and a specific line was bringing a lot of money we would all be commenting on it one way or another.

More power to the person gettng the $.. The fact that someone commented that she is really a nice person is so much the better as far as I am concerned,

I think its great that we have these nice little surprises in this little world of chicken hobbyests.

Was thinking the same thing. I spent more than that for 48 eggs and have 5 chicks to show for it. An omelette would not have been such a bad idea. LOL

The shipped eggs are such a crap shoot. whew, I have not had great luck that is ifor sure.

I have never seen a 225 dollar omelette.

I'm new to this line. I decided to check out this string. I read one person that said the eggs are going that high because of the shell color. Call me ignorant but why is shell color such a big issue. The shell goes in the trash once the egg hatches. So why does it make a difference. Does it effect the coloring of the chicken? We have some Americaunas that lay green eggs which look cool. However I would never pay much more for them.

As I said I have never hatched eggs and am new at this. Not trying to be a smart a##. Just really curious.

guess what? I can vouch for certain that they taste the same as a fifty cent egg. Every now and then I crack one when I forget it is in my pocket, or try to carry too many in one hand and those I eat. They taste good, but not forty bucks worth. I can't tell you how much fun it is though to go egg collecting every day. No two eggs are ever identical. Every day the shade changes just a bit, or sometimes a lot, and some have speckles, subtle shading from one end to the other, and some days they skip! Yikes! On those days, it just makes you look forward ten times as much to the next egg... I can't put my finger on it. I bought my first marans eggs by accident and out of boredom. I just chose an auction with a lot of bids on it and let a hundred ride. I did NOT expect to pay $96, but have never had so much fun from a hundred dollar bill in my entire life!

We have egg shows here too! In fact, I'm going to enter my Marans eggs in a couple of them this winter. I don't think I'll win, just want to see where my eggs stand in the line-up and get the experience.

Well, I chose Marans because I wanted that egg color. I thought it would make my eggs more attractive if I sold them as eating eggs (especially mixed with eggs from my blue-egg layers) and it would therefor be easier to ask the price I think the eggs are worth. Also, it's so hard to get and keep that egg color, because the genetics of that egg color are not so well understood. I think it's a really interesting breeding project. It's like this - if you're a chicken geek, you can totally geek out on the whole egg-color thing.

On the subject of this auction - who ever is paying that amount of $$$$$$ is paying for the pleasure of a possibly getting that egg color and probably enjoying the whole thing. But what a risk! 6 mailed eggs for that price is too big of a risk for me... if none hatched, I would cry. A lot.​

It's a lot of money, but, as others have alreay stated, if someone wants to buy them, that's their choice. Out of curiousity, has anyone who has bought these eggs had any of them hatch? If so, what was the result?

Thanks for the replies. I wasn't aware they actually had egg contest for color of egg. Is there anyway to preserve an egg in a shell? Do they drain the egg?
