Well just wanted every one to know that so far my two experiences of purchasing hatching eggs off ebay has not paid off. I really wish I had better news. One seller even sent the wrong breed. And when you go and try and buy Black Copper Marans you know they are not cheap at all. The hatchings were not good on all either. One was 1 egg out of 4 and the other was 2 eggs out of six. So as I was out over 100.00 dollars for all 9 eggs only three eggs hatched and one of them was not even a BCM, so they makes me have over 50.00 a chick in these Marans. How stupid can you get. Well maybe I am not stupid but there has got to be a better way. I throughly intend to some be able to sell my French Black Copper Marans some day but I would hope to learn through all of you postings here on this forum the do & don't of selling hatching eggs. I hope to be able to do it right.
What went right and wrong with your ebay hatching eggs experiences?

I have one had one bad ebay experience where I had 0%. I been doing pretty well. I actually sold some of my birds to thin down my flock. I am sorry for the heck you have to go through. I hope you can get a small refund.

I can certainly see why youd be upset at that chick..definitely not a black copper marans!

But with the other seller? a 30% hatch rate on shipped eggs, esp this time of year..really isnt bad. Hatching shipped eggs is always going to be a crap shot and the seller cant do anything to control how the postoffice treats the eggs or the buyers skill in hatching them.

When the chicks that *do* hatch arent the breed you bought though..well thats a bad seller for sure sigh.

I agree with you totally there. Its got so bad on ebay and eggbid that i dont buy eggs at either place anymore. Its just not worth it between the low hatch rate from shipping and the quality of the chicks that i often get. Seems like more and more ppl are seeing hatching eggs as a quick way to make a buck without realizing that there are so many factors that affect the buyers hatch rate..from packaging to hen health and of course freshness. Having 2 hens and a rooster of a rare breed isnt going to supply you enough eggs to sell *fresh* hatching eggs to ship sigh. Of course it works both ways. Theres always the buyer that lets eggs sit for a week and then fusses that none of them were fertile..duh.

I'm a dummy who has been incubating "Giant Blue Cochin" eggs for two weeks - when they are really Silkies.

The seller sent me the wrong eggs, and it took me two weeks to figure out that the little pink eggs aren't big brown eggs.

Anyway, the seller asked for a photo, and then said he will send me the eggs I want, at my convenience. I'm waiting until it's not so hot to have them shipped.

Now I'm waiting for Silkies I don't want.

I am not sure if it is ok or not to post the sellers name but it may help and they could respond as well to the shipping. I think no matter how flat the pancake there is always two sides. they have the right to their defense but should be all honest.'
Ebay doesn't give much of a place to do a follow up on the purchases so maybe both buyer and sellers can come to terms here and maybe even have a little jury on the side for solutions.
What do you think?

Agree, Peddler...I have made 4 purchases of eggs from Ebay. Two of the sets are on day 20 today. Of the 36 eggs from these 2 sets, only 6 were either non-fertile or developed a blood-ring. All the others had live large chicks in them when I closed the bator on day 18. I had one purchase from Eggbid of 12 eggs. Only 2 were fertile and those are due to hatch next week.

I just received an Ebay order yesterday via Priority Mail. The eggs were well wrapped. The order was for 12 and I received 20 eggs! One was cracked so I put 19 in the bator this morning. I did candle them last night and there are 2 that look like they may have mobile aircells but I won't really know until day 4 when I candle again.

I think it's just a crap shoot as far as the shipping issues. It doesn't matter who you buy them from. I know there are BYC members that sell on both Ebay and Eggbid, so I don't think the selling forum really makes any difference.

I asked for photos of the parent flock from one Ebayer. They were never sent so I didn't bid on the eggs. One seller was advertising his eggs as "Hattrick" flock. I asked if he meant the parents were BOTH Hattrick silkies and he just said, "Yes." I did NOT bid on those eggs. ONe line replies make me very nervous.
