Ebay Purchased Hatching Eggs Experiences Ups & Downs!!!

I've had 2 zero percent hatches from ebay:( And never better than a 10% hatch rate. My own eggs I get close to 98% but I was trying to get eggs fro things I wanted but did not have yet.

Plus, my Arucana blue egg turned out to be a mutt:( It has Cochin in it. I have cochins already so I'll just cross it with them but that wasn't the point of buying the eggs that said they were purebreds.

Well if people who are into really hatching eggs come here to find out just what sellers are really doing then maybe at least the sellers will at least take that into consideration when selling. They may get away with the sell but maybe this feedback here will make a little difference.
I hoping it will.
I have posted on my website the name of the my ebay sellers so maybe the name will make a difference. I watch for egg bid to so that's not to say they have a name there as well as a location.
Having your name posted is almost as bad has having your name on the chalkboard when you were 6.
Plus they get to come to their own defense.
me I would make them carry a sign.:thun
I think it will work if me make it work.

I am so tempted to buy eggs from e-bay , but I have always decided against it. I know there are reputable sellers because some of the people on this board sell on e-bay. I just decide to buy eggs from people I feel as though I have a connection with. That doesn't work all the time because I have had a not so good experieince in a purchase from someone on this board. I won't go into it,I pm'd the person and told them of my disappointment and I have had no response,so I will chalk it up to experience tax and not purchase eggs from that person again.
I sell my eggs and chicks to many of you and it is of the utmost importance to me that they are exactly what I say they are,so I can't take a chance of getting new blood that may not be what it is supposed to be.That means I slowly and surely bring new blood into my flock, being very careful of the source. I'm sorry you had a bad experience.I can't help you with black copper marans, but if you ever want cuckoo marans, contact me and I promise they will be exactly that.

Ok since most folks do not want to place a sellers name on their own personal website I feel that it just plan well enough to place it here.
blah blab blah from KY, sold me 4 eggs I have one that hatched and it is the bird below sold a as Black Copper marans.

Any input?

The other seller in NH named blah blah blah which I have seen his name on here before. I bought 6 eggs and have only 2 hatch.
Now that is not to say that we know the chances we take when we order eggs from auction sellers but no excuse for wrong breeds when you go through so much trouble to state your eggs and birds to be most perfect breeds, to get the most money.
Please it's your turn to comment.

please keep this forum clean & decent so as it not to have to be locked out.

I've only purchased eBay eggs once; I received 14 (auction was for 12). One had a crack, so we set 13, and ALL 13 hatched!

My hatcher got an order from a very reputable (at least we thought) Marans breeder; they were supposed to be Blue Marans, and I think she ended up with maybe one blue; she had Cuckoo, Golden, and others that appear to be crossbred colors.

Regarding hatching eggs, I've been researching hatching them and from what I have learned, they are extremely difficult to hatch due to the dark coating. They also have VERY small pores (interestingly, making them immune from Salmonella poisoning), and the dark coating on top of them makes them dry down much slower, and often times, chicks drown. Some folks actually lightly sand the eggs before setting to remove some of the coating. Also, some folks hatch at a lower humidity than non-Marans eggs.

I know it's frustrating, but I sure hate to hear folks dissing eBay sellers; as I said, my experience was absolutely awesome! I think you just need to be careful to do your research on the seller BEFORE bidding.

I do not know much about Black Copper marans so I can't comment on that. I just filed some Paypal claims for the mutt so I'll see what they do. I will keep the chick but I would really like my money back as I paid for a purebred not a mutt and spent 21 days tending to the eggs in the bator to hatch out mutts instead of purebreds which I was sold. I already made myself a note to never buy anything from that person again.

That is interesting about the humidity. Next time I hatch some in my bater,I may experiment with a slightly lower humidity and see what happens.

Ginas...that's my plan, as well. I've got three copper black babies (out of Bev Davis eggs); ended up with 3 to hatch out of 13. That's why I started researching on hatching them, thinking maybe Marans needed extra care in some way, shape, or form. Assuming my 3 make it to adulthood & lay, and the eggs are fertilized, I'm going to do a small test hatch of maybe 6, sanding half of them, to see if that really does help. It'll be interesting!

I've hatched a lot of my own marans eggs and never done anything special to them and they've hatched just fine.

I've had both good and bad hatches from eggs from eggbid, ebay and BYC. Most of the time I think it's more the shipping and weather conditions to blame than the seller....except for the time I bought SLW and hatched buff brahmas!!

ETA....My hens lay dark eggs too so it's not like they're laying light colored eggs.

I do not even want to make a ebay or egg bid seller bad. That is not my intent. And I am sure no one will argue over the fact that we are aware of the hatch rate. Its the off breeds that really makes me up set.

They know what they have and they know what they are selling.
I have been a power seller on ebay since 2001 and I know that if I do not get my description right I pay heck.
I am sure there are a lot of good reviews out there. my only two have been bad so far. and I will probably be stupid enough to try it again some day. probably no seller will sell to me now but I can see my name as the biggest block bidder on ebay when it come to hatching eggs.
I can't leave feedback so I am here.
All we ask is be honest.
Tells us what you think happens when we get a mutt from a egg you state is a breed.
