Moved my girls (29 of them) and 3 boys out to the 4 x 4 coop. They are 2 weeks old and all I had used was the heat lamp the first two weeks... bought the ecoglow's in hopes of keeping them warm in the coming week temps will dip to 15. Put it out there today and I expected them to naturally flock underneath it....nope....I still have a heat bulb in the light socket about 2 feet above them and the coop temp is 60...
Did I introduce the ecoglow's too late for them? They seem frightened of it....
Put some yogurt and feed under it which is typically their favorite and nothing....
Hoping I didn't waste $70....thanks

I use a heating pad cave, same concept. It takes some of my chicks a couple nights to figure it out. At dusk, I put them under it one by one. And do it a few times until they stay under. I introduced my first cave to 3 week old chicks. Also make sure it is low/ high enough so when the chicks are underneath it is touching their backs, it is radiant heat so their backs need to be touching it to warm up. Just like with a mama hen , chicks will spend most of their times exploring around and only go under when they need a quick warm up except at night.

Thanks so much....I didn't realize that their backs would have to be touching...wow.....
I actually went back to a heat pad as our temps here are dipping back into the teens...debating whether or not I'm going to return it or not....
Not sure if I thought they would just flock to it....I have 30 more chicks coming at the end of May so will try it for them....
Thanks again

I have an ecoglow 50 and I love it. I also have two heating pads and I find that the ecoglow is hotter underneath.(no thermometer, just my hand). The heating pad makes a nice warm cave because the pad touches the ground and stops any drafts but the ecoglow seems to put out more btu.

I wanted the EcoGlow 50 but settled with the EcoGlow 20. I have 10 chicks coming in APRIL. Hope it's big enough for my 10.:)

I have the EcoGlow 20 and have 10 chicks under it right now, they fit no problem. You'll have to put the chicks under it so they figure it out
