Start buying smarter, start living smarter, start saving/investing smarter, start voting smarter, start behaving smarter... if every citizen of this country just picked ONE of those things it's make a difference I think.
I'm working on buying, saving, living... think I behave fairly well... and I vote smart IMO, with research and all... not perfect by any means but I am trying to improve how we do things in our house... ask me again in year.
What are you talking about?!?! You already behave way better than some in your family, and MOST in mine!
On the behaving thing I was thinking of criminal stuff... SO many just don't see any problem at all taking whatever they want... be that goods or lives... boy oh boy if even 1 measly percent changed their attitude... imagine the difference!
Some of the things we will need to do on top of that is UNITE and force our politicians to cut spending and follow through on promises, regardless of party. I can't help but believe a lot of the economic woes are being intentionally manipulated to gain control over the masses and increase the size and power of government. This again is somewhere else we can unite and focus our dollars or just hold them back.
They are now talking about extending the retirement age, dropping many tax deductions like mortgage interest, and taxing pretax health care benefit costs. I say no way to all three of those. I'm going to hold back on the things I'd like to see cut but a 10% across the board federal cut would help a lot. Nothing will be easy. We'll see what happens.

I LOVE THAT QUOTE BB!!
PC you and I are freakishly aligned in our thinking. It can be hard though, when you're in the lower rung of income, to see how your few measly dollars will make a difference... but when you band together... those measly dollars... and measly votes... can add up to a BIG difference.
I'm having SO much trouble convincing folks of that though. My mom for instance. Always voted Dem right, which is fine, her right. What peeved me so badly is that in the 2008 run she didn't care for Obama so she didn't bother to vote at all... for ANY of the election... not just the presidential, but Texas Reps, Senators, even down to her local county stuff... she just stayed home. But evidently that's a fairly common thing... during this year's stuff there was an article that mentioned that a lot of folks only bother voting every four years when there's a presidential election... don't bother for the "midterms"... which just boggles me. Especially with early voting. We took the kids with us this year and even with the line, since we waited until the last day of EV, it was still in and out in under 15 minutes. 15 measly minutes of our day... to make even a small difference... and to pass that attitude to the kids... SO WORTH IT!!
Or to get on a BYC level... during the egg recall I donno how many folks around here said I was so smart for having my own girls... including the in laws... but did they stop buying commercial? NO they did not. And here we are again, ANOTHER recall... eight states and 288,000 eggs involved. Not near as scary as the August 3.8 million one, true, but still. Put up or shut up already!

I don't think there is anything such as a measly vote. All those "measly" votes can speak volumes.
In Canada we have two big parties and one smaller party (and few others that don't really count
).
In the last few elections the smaller third party has been getiing more votes. They don't have any hope of getting into power but it should say something to the other two parties. It should say there is unrest and the public is fed up. But the other two are so arrogant they don't get it or don't care. They are playing the biggest game of all, I'm the King of the Castle.
I think most people are into automatic buying. Because they have not been directly affected it is not a issue with most people.
With all the information out there now and how fast information can travel these days I still run into people who think high production processed food is ethical, healthy and safe.
