Ed, the VERY naughty pony!

Yeah, poor kid has some cods to keep getting back on. Not because he should be scared but out of frustration. I'm glad I had a horse at a young age and even when it would act up, I'd go get me a stick lol. Turned to be a bombproof horse after a few years and me a great rider...just like that kid lol

Yeah..i understand about learning to ride better..
But that pony is dangerous... that kid could fall wrong and get hurt badly...
I would never put a child so young on a horse acting like that...
Just my opinion though..

Theyve got those side reins attached to the saddle because he was pulling the kid out of the saddle. I adopted and retrained 3 thoroughbreds off the track and had to use those in the beginning because they are taught to pull against the reins and riders hands because it helps give them both balance when running at top speed. It makes them hard pullers when you are retraining them but they grow out of it.

That little pony is a turd and really needs some retraining and the kid was bouncing all over the place lol

Personally this is what I see:

A well trained pony who is giving clear signals of distress in both clips – wringing of tail, grabbing bit and charging, trying to pull bit from boy.

I see a young boy who uses the reins to stay on his pony, instead of riding with his legs and seat. This puts wear and tear on the pony’s mouth.

I think the pony is young and not really suited for this rider, rider obviously loves the pony. Pony is never mean or nasty to the young rider, just does the minimum to get the rider to stop pulling or off his back. Rider needs an older horse and to not be doing more than trotting at this time – no jumping or cantering.

A different rider will get a different response due to how the reins are handled. Pony made a wonderful cart horse – which takes a well trained pony/horse – and cart drivers have a steady hand on the reins, not pulling on the mouth.



BUT – I do not train kids, just ponies.

My neighbor just was given a two ponies, the mare whom is very gentle though her true abilities are unknown as the owner was very elderly and had had a stroke and was very confusing on what he said. However we do know the pony was ridden by young children and I can tell by the pony mare I obviously picked up as soon as DD sat on her, she's used to a leadline and trail riding with no bit following behind the larger gelding pony as once we got him to move, the mare moved along smoothly behind. DD and I have full access to both ponies and so a friend of mine will be coming out once a week to help teach DD basic skills and what not. She definately wouldn't have a problem with a troublesome horse though, my DD is VERY stubborn and too loving of an animal to give up on them

- however that kid holds too tightly to the reigns and I agree the horse acts very aggitated and no one - mom or supposed trainer mentioned step in or correct this boy ever? Obviously not if he kept doing it and kept getting tossed. He does it as well on the palomino Pip, and that pony is much older and very mild mannered but shows a few signs of aggrivation.

Also - am I the only one that noticed the boy keeps clicking and urging both ponies? I was taught to encourage some vocally, but directions and speed to use more leg. *shrugs* I just feel sorry for both ponies who had to deal with their mouths aggravated and torn up by a bit in a death grip of this boy. Even petting Pip after the 'gallop' he holds a tight reign instead of relaxing and giving it to her for her to relax (not sure if Pip is girl or boy didn't pay that much attention)
