So I am getting told a few different things and I am unsure about the rooster topic. Do I want a rooster? I accidentlly ended up with 3 now. 2 Silkies and 1 EE.
My chickens are 6 sexlinks, 6 leghorns, (all pullets, I think), 1 silkie pullet, 2 silkie roosters, 2 EE pullets, 1 EE rooster.
I have 1 coop and my chickens free range all day.

So tell me your opinions on the Rooster subject.

Its up to you how you want them for breeding purpose or pets. Try to keep silkies together in seperate pens for Purbreds. EE in another pen etc. If you dont want to have babies. let them loose and collect eggs. I have 2 Silkie roosters, 1 EE rooster, and a red cochin rooster, Roosters are seperated because they fight really bad !! They are very rough on my hens.

my thinking is that in case I want to hatch, it would be good to have a rooster around but that what the heck am I supposed to do with the Silkie thrown into my flock. I did not want anything like that because you can't have an EE rooster mating with a Silkie, right? My husband saw the Silkies and had to have them. Then somehow ended up with 2 roos and a hen instead of 2 hens and a roo. If something is sold in a "pair" does that mean it male/female automatically?
I am not looking to sell any fertile eggs or anything. I just want the ability to have more chickens if I want to down the road. ugh! I don't know what to do. I guess that's what I get for letting my husband go to the poultry sale with me.

My silkie rooster mated with EE hens the babies turned out beautiful! they are laying small blue and green eggs. If you want purbreds. keep them in seperate pens. purebreds sells better than mutts. The hard part about breeding is you may end up having moe roosters!
