Educating myself before becoming a chicken mom

Welcome to BYC! It's a pleasure to have you here in our community!

I’m not terribly impulsive, especially when a life may hang in the balance. So, while we are probably 8 years away from finally moving to the country & starting a small (6-8 hens) flock, I’m trying to learn as much as possible about best practices/equipment. I can’t wait to pick everyone’s brains; thanks for granting me access to your group!
Welcome to the human flock.

Do you really have to wait that long? Do you have a garden or a huge balcony?

Maybe you don’t need to move to the country to start with a small flock of bantam hens? If you have about 10m2 for a couple of tiny chickens you can start this year.

Our HOA does not allow chickens. We can’t even grow vegetables if they can be seen from the road. My immediate neighbors are delightful, but they pronounced it “quaint” that I cooked with the herbs I grew (back yard neighbor’s trees have thrown my backyard into shade, so I can’t grow them any more).
