EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I'm loving it!!! We only got the 1 from ours, but my little white goat had her utters drop, she's been with our billy for a couple weeks now. He tried *really* hard to mate with her the last 2-3 weeks.. so I think she might be pregnant now. I need to get her away from him, since he peed all over her. LOL

He's not showing interest in mating with her anymore... so either she's out of season, or knocked up!

I can't wait till spring :p

Although, I really do think I may end up going back to nubians.
I would wait 23 more days to be sure. Good luck. I have Nubians and Saanens too.

Louisiana
See the difference? Or is that how Cajuns pronounce it? Phonetic spelling?
Gee willickers . ...
I love that expression.

Wow!!!! I take a sabbatical and we lose our home?!? Lol! Congratulations!!!! I hope everyone is well~ I've missed you all! Just a little update....

After two dismal attempts at hatching Marans, I think I found the secret, resulting in 7/10 beautiful babies! They were shipped from CT, to CA. The breeder told me to run the Brinsea (generously loaned to me by Jessimom ) at 40%, 100 degrees... she recommended only upping it to 45% at MOST for "lockdown". She actually told me to leave it at 40, only upping it if they were having trouble... I was reluctant, but figured I had nothing to lose- I did go up to 45 though (couldn't stand it) and... Voilá! They hatched beautifully!!! ...
Good for you. Theories are that very dark eggs lose less moisture because of the extra pigment.
For best results, one shouldn't hatch a big variety of eggs together. Additionally, by using weight rather than relative humidity or wet bulb temperature, the hatch will be better due to the difference in eggs.

Well, the extra cocks are sold. Now I can condense to two coops for the winter. One went for breeding, the other to dinner. Poor Rory.
That sounds good but I'm about to add coops for winter.

@MotorcycleChick @Sally Sunshine Here are more pictures as requested.

Looks like a good mom.

The sooner the better after you're convinced she's broody which is IMHO after her second night sleeping in the box.

I've never tried a broody with that big of a difference in egg sizes. I had turkeys hatch chickens and chickens hatch geese but that's the biggest difference I've tried.

she is an silkie/oegb, she is little
i would pull the one egg and the golf ball, though the egg may be ok, my friend has coturnix which only take like 17 days i think and she has been on her egg now 3 days

Well that should work.

I just couldn't imagine quail eggs under a big hen.
They might think they're jelly beans and start eating them.
