EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

mornin beautiful!!  what three more days till surgery?
awesome MEL!!! what you didnt take pics for us???  I need to drool a bit you know that!!

yes, but somewhat like I showed you guys in those seedling starter table    not just wrapping and covering no, Im wondering if I cant use dryer flat venting and put them inside of it with two pv through for extra support and then cover the flat dryer pipe with indoor outdoor carpet???  suggestions would be great, I am thinking 6 to ten inches wide would be cool
I would think you could build something out of wood for cheaper. Do they need a roost board for sleeping or would would a normal roost work? Roost board could take 1x6 or 1x10 and sandwich a ripped 2x4 on the edges, making a long box like the metal dryer pipe. Wouldn't have as much heat loss as the thin metal, than put carpet on top of that.

That would be really fancy. When I put my older chicks out in the greenhouse I just put the rope on the ground. When they were cold they would lay on or next to it. They were already used to it in the barn.

So the dryer vent would be their roost? Does the room need to be warm as well when it's 40* or just the roost at night?

For the chicks I cover the rope with some dirt in a box. I'm thinking of putting some on the roost just under or on the edge. Was thinking for heat but it looks as if it will work for lighting for eggs in the winter as well. Experiment mostly on the roost. Last night when I checked on them they weren't on the roost. Most were on the large granite rock. I guess staying warm.

I'll try and get the light on the roost this weekend. The power is already there. They may not like it.
You could tape over it to lessen the light part if you think the heat would still permeate well.

Good morning.

Mornin Peter, how are you kind sir?

Good morning everyone!
Well, I threatened my birds on the roost Friday night. I said, "Whoever us eating MY eggs better stop or when I figure out who it is I am going to have chicken soup!" Did you know I have not had a single egg eaten since?
