I wonder if it would be warm enough on the inside by it to keep the water thawed. Especially, with my insulated coop.

:) Shoot, he won't even bother pregnant people or animals. That's why I think my goats are pregnant, he stopped herding the does the way he used to, now he gently guides them where he wants while he still herds the buck the same he always has.
Well, if you're right it sure saves on ultrasounds :lau

:lau Well they (I have 2 dogs) knew my oldest sister was pregnant before she did so I trust their judgement :gig They're just brush goats, not worth getting an ultrasound, they'll kid sooner or later. That's Bucks proven, he used to be my uncles.
I just do a couple of important ones. I also have a group with a first year buck and several first time does. My vet charges 15 for the first and five each on the extras so the only real hassle is the trip.

I've considered one of them myself. How effective are they in daylight? I can't picture a spooked bird that doesn't want to be caught letting itself get hooked.
The leg hooks work pretty well. I had made 2 prior to breaking down and buying one. The one I bought is much stiffer. You sometimes have to adjust the gap for different size birds.
They avoid the hook but not nearly as much as a net. With a group of birds, there's enough mayhem that you can always hook something.

Calamari sub with clam juice and fried worms!
The first 2 I can do, hold the worms.

I rarely have an agenda for the day, just make it up as I go.
I don't get nearly as much done without a list.

...
To make brown sugar you need one cup of white sugar and one tablespoon of molasses. Mix the two together — this job is faster if you use an electric mixer — until completely incorporated. Use it or store it — it doesn't matter, because you just made brown sugar.

...
I remember that from the book "Sugar Blues".
The author had severe diabetes and used brown sugar thinking it was healthier than refined sugar.
During his research on how to overcome diabetes, he took a tour of a sugar plant in Hawaii. He was shocked to see them take refined sugar and add molasses to turn it into brown.

I've installed lots of solar thermal and solar water panels on homes, industrial and government buildings.

IMO, I wouldn't advise them for chicken coops though unless there is another heat source. An unheated building at 5 AM in the middle of January will be about the same temp inside as out. Making it toasty warm during the day and then dropping to ambient lows at night will stress the birds much more than just letting it stay cool.
That would subject the birds to extreme temperature swings during the night of every sunny day.

@Fire Ant Farm Hi! Yes, you can just search goat polio. There is a good article on Tennesseemeatgoats.com

Good luck getting the chores done. I was going to get power strung and dug to the red coop yesterday, but the goat that got sick was at my friend's place and then she wanted help with a project before she left. By the time I got done, took the goat home and sectioned off a shed with a couple of panels for Eclipse I was out of daylight. I despise the short days and regular time. I really wish we stayed on Daylight savings time year round.
I was fortunate to get 5 cockerels butchered yesterday. The coop fairy came up to help. I slaughtered and gutted and she plucked.
