EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I just went back to the old thread to look something up, and saw my posts form when I was hatching for the first time. I was a total pest nutcase.:lau

You are remarkably sane compared to me.

(I'll probably be a nutcase again this year. Seems to be my lot in life...)

I pretend to not be a nutcase well then!

Totally was, and still am

Hatcher is all ready for business!! (top bator)

Incubator is underneath humming away. (It's humidity is low I know

) It's been high lately because of the ambient humidity due to it being very hot and rainy here so I'm keeping it down for a while, bumping it up later.

Both are connected to a UPS, nothing is going to stop me (ง'̀-'́)ง

I do hatching in a separate 'bator as well. I didn't plan it that way, but I had a second 'bator (R-Com) that kept temp and humidity well but didn't turn eggs as well as I'd like (got a lot of malpositioned chicks). It's better for actual hatching than the other, and also much easier to clean. So it's my (rather expensive) hatcher now. (Which is nice, as it allows for staggered hatches more easily.)

UPS - You go!

I don't believe ya. <<Runs to go look>>
No :hit
We do it coz we're addicted.. :weee
(Stick around at least till NYD, when I have a hatch going on, and you'll see just how bad I am )

Hahahaha! Well, I will admit, got my very first chickens last year, and have been pretty addicted since. Started with RIR, white leghorns and Barred rocks. Then I learned there were so many cooler breeds out there! So then I added some buff orpingtons, salmon Favorelle, couple months later added some chicks, Olive eggers, Easter eggers and a D Unccle. I'm hoping since I hatched them they might be a bit friendlier with me (not that my others aren't friendly) but my salmon Favorelle literally loves to be held and pet. Hoping for more of that with these little buggers.

Better start working on those carpentry skills. I assume you have lots of power tools? If not, budget for them. You've got a lot of building ahead of you, I'm thinking...

(Says someone who knows... and has learned to build almost anything in the past year...)

We built our first cute little coop that fit 6-8 out of our girls swing set. The top clubhouse part!
