No, but I'm suffering from a case of English-and-Swahili-make-the-same-amount-of-sense-itis. Sorry, I know whatcha mean now!

Saw something yesterday wish I had gotten a picture of it, eagle down by the news paper boxes munching on a dead animal, 1st I've seen around here in 18 years of moving back home, was neat as heck

Hi Silver,
Bald eagles have begun to winter in the north Kansas City, USA area, two were doing a flying dance over my place last winter
Eight wild turkeys this morning
my welsummer pullets have started laying, I am pleased with egg color.
one locust post planted 3'9" deep 7" diameter at the small end
poultry netting stored for the winter. I am mildly disappointed the batteries in my solar charger only lasted three summers. I will need to order new next spring or figure out an a/c system. looks like I will get at least four summers out of my first length of poultry netting.

Oh come on, how often do you have to post something like "Guess what?" needing a "What?". Just tell us you are excited or whatever and why. Then we can skip the tedious " What?"
I know Sally has mentioned this before.
BTW I am excited for you that they are developing. How many have made it this far?

You mean it was taught in grade school.
lost one but all other five are still alive.

i bought my dad an impact gun for Christmas a few years ago, i dont think he's used it, but if it were mine you can bet it would have some hours on it

This is my first time hatching and my first time with a broody hen! My silkie hatched out two chicks from a clutch of 6 eggs. It was a staggered hatch since I forgot to mark her first 4 eggs and she collected two more (after that I marked them!). She is now on day 28/22 with one egg remaining. Two eggs were removed after candling showed no chicks at all by day 18 and yes they were just eggs when I cracked them. One egg was removed today due to a terrible smell and after checking, yes just a rotten egg with maybe a tiny bit of early development. The final egg is completely dark, I can see nothing at all. This is the second day I can see nothing including no air cell. I've left her the egg since she's still willing to sit, her two chicks are doing fine with her and I do not know if this egg is from the first 4 or the later 2 eggs. Do you think there is any hope at all for this final egg to become a chick. I am using an egg candler not a flashlight and although being a novice it is very clear I can only see absolute dark in this remaining egg. We didn't candle much at all early on, in fact didn't think anything would come of this clutch until a chick hatched. First chick is now 9 days old, second chick is now 4 days old. I've read and read these forums but still not quite sure at what point we float test or give up and take away this egg. Silkie has been antsy but still sitting.
If your not sure after float test give more time, Welcome!!!

EXACTLY as Dax stated below!!

Congratulations! This is a hatching and chick help thread. There is just a lot of time to kill in between that we fill with chatter. Especially for those pacing with a hatch

I don't know what just happened... Went to the grocery store and started to get big stomach pains... They went away.. Came home did a butt load of dishes and cleaned the kitchen and now I just feel icky... Run down kind of dizzy.... Gonna lay down a bit with the fan on and just read the threads to relax for a bit... Hopefully this passes quickly.
LoulyLove you ok??? @lindalouly I hope I see some more posts!!! ughhhh

I need to get some work done too, including my house work....

Okay, @Sally Sunshine I'm going to need to know/suggestions on how to do a staggered hatch.... if I get those silkie eggs I think I just won, my incubator will be in the middle of lock down when they arrive..... *facepalm*

Have I missed anything big the last two days? I don't have time to read back right now. I am leaving for a camping trip tonight, and have been offline getting ready all week or working.
Have a great time dax!

I didn't realize that my post of coffees didn't go through this morning.

Hi MC how you feeling>
anyone here from MEL???

Yes, but sadly, even they should be able to write in complete sentences with good grammar and spelling. That is taught in grade school.

Thanks for the welcome and suggestion. I didn't realize this was more of a fun chat thread, just posted my question after reading all the introductory articles on the first page :-).

Float test- appropriate level of floating but not much movement, what we did see could have just been unsettled room, dogs and kids walking about. Maybe I'll try again tonight when things are quieter. I'm willing to give it more time just with the staggered hatch I've no idea if this chick is very overdue or just a day. If we ever let a broody sit again I will never, ever forget to mark the eggs right away so we'll know if she adds more! We're thrilled with the two chicks she's hatched and would love a third but these two are pretty wonderful.

Mixed breeds, Silkie mamas (since Silkie had 4 of her own eggs then took 2 of her sister's!) but the possible dads are Ancona, Appenzellar Spitzhauben and Sicilian Buttercup. They were all "oops" surprise roosters in our spring chick order. I would tend to say the little brown baby has the Buttercup as her/his dad! Our Silkies are all blues although they are all quite dark gray to black
awwww buttercup!!
