EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

She retracted it slightly when I touched her toes.

Not sure at all. I just know it was a long tailed, brown beast with a white spot on its chest.

You may want to trim feathers so they don't get into the wound.

HP will kill bacteria but also new cellular growth. That's why you want to use betadine on anything other than fresh wounds. It will kill bacteria but not new cells.
The eye type triple antibiotic ointment is preferable because it melts at body temperature so will seep deep into the wound.

I also apply Campho Phenique before the ointment because it is antiseptic but also helps pain/itching.

No, no, no, no, no. This isn't real. It CAN'T be. :hit

I went out to check on my chickens and Tucson and Heather were dead. They had their throats cut and mangled. Chrissy is badly hurt but alive. One BSL hen dead, and Emma has injured toes.

Just.... Dead. My babies.

I can't take this.

I flushed that beast out of his lair with boiling water and ether before removing his head with a shovel. Call me cruel if you wish, but I don't regret it.

I'm so so sorry to hear this :( so devastating.

Chrissy's leg is cold and stiff, and she was partially scalped. I am trying to save her.

I have brought her indoors and don't know what I should do next. That leg is worrying me very much.... I don't think it's broken, but I don't know what is the matter.

@casportpony

This just has to be a bad dream.

Someone, can you walk me through supportive care for injured birds, please?? I can not think in the slightest right now. I am sorry.

Keep her warm, in a dimly lit area. I'd maybe have a towel for the floor of the crate or whatever she's in for good grip and comfort. Flush the wounds with warm water and some peroxide mixed in (first flush only). Wherever wounds are, dry them after the flush and coat them with neosporin. Watch and wait. Clean at least 2 times a day, always keeping either neosporin or vaseline on it for moisture and protection. Definitely add vitamins to the drinking water. Good luck and please keep us posted on her. I really hope that her leg isn't beyond repair.

Sorry, I'm not posting that info online.
Thanks for the link

Chrissy's trying to walk now.... That leg isn't working.

At least if you narrowed it down to the Northeast, Northwest, Southwest, Southeast, Midwest, we may be able to narrow down predators.
