How are you going to set on Monday if the thermometer doesn't come in until Monday? Aren't you going to calibrate it or at least spot check it for 24 hours before you set the eggs? There is no point in setting them if the temp is off or unstable. I have set serama eggs that were almost a month old and still developed and hatched because I stored them correctly. I think you would be better off getting the thermometer on Monday and setting on Tuesday or Wednesday when the temp and humidity is stable. One or 2 days is not going to make or break your fertility but if your settings are off you can say goodbye to that whole batch of eggs. You are on here for help and we are trying to help you but you have to learn to be patient and listen when you ask for advice. Otherwise it is disrespectful to people's time and efforts that are trying to teach you.
. We have one about 1.5 hrs away. Try to hit it up at least once a summer.

Another staple of that time was drive-in restaurants. Regular restaurant inside, but there was also a large lot outside where you parked, ordered whatever you wanted to eat & drink via speakers, and car hops would deliver it to your car. There was a ritual whereby you had to circle the lot twice before you parked, to check out who all was there, and let everyone know that you were there, as well. You usually backed into the parking spot so you could "people watch" while you ate. That also let you check out all the cool cars; lowered, raked, chopped, street rods...all sorts of modifications that Detroit had overlooked.

Quote: I don't want to be an alarmist, but I'm betting that was an electrical problem; a cable shorting out, most likely. Better get an electrician out there PDQ, or you may wake up to a fire, anyway.

Oh, I know. I'll be calling one. I just wanted to be sure I didn't have something smoldering right now. I'll need to call someone on Monday.![]()
Y'know I have to do it now...

Well, I got a LITTLE done this afternoon - not much, but not bad. But had a little excitement - I was in the back and saw a big shower of sparks coming from under the eaves of the corner of the house, accompanied by a big crackle and pop. It stopped then, and I went up into the attic, but it was too far toward the edge and I couldn't even see the area, much less reach it. No smoke. But I didn't want to chance it, so I called the fire department and explained the situation - they got here pretty fast, and I explained what I had seen, and they checked everything for heat and looked up into a gap into the area. And everything's cool. I apologized for bugging them, but they said it was good that I called just in case. (I just didn't want to wake up at 3am to the house on fire - it was the main "barn" house, but that's where the 2 week old chicks are, and also it's very close (about 5-6 feet) to the house where I Iive.
Whew!
