Doing good.
Hopefully we have everything in place in case we lose power.

It's COLD, 29° but wind chill is 11°.

Esther is outside, more active than she's been, though not as much as the other hens are. She ate a little while inside, but ate the egg/cheese/BOSS mix when I tossed it in the coop.

Her looked more normal!

Pork chops and sauerkraut are in the slow cooker, bread is on first rise. I hardboiled eggs, half which were good enough to pickle. They're in the refrigerator in pickled beet brine. The other eggs will be egg salad later, or maybe chopped and fed to the chickens.

Anyone else "get cooking" in adverse weather?

I saw a hack about keeping watering tubs from freezing as quickly. A cattle farmer I know confirmed it can work, but not when it gets much below 20°F. She said use 1/2 cup of salt in 3/4 gallon of water. My jugs are more like 1/2 cup salt in 1/2 gallon of water. I added fresh water in the tubs until the level matched the water level in the jug.

I'll let you know how it works.

I’m starting to cook up several meals I can reheat on the gas range if needed (no oven if the power goes out.)

But the weird thing is that it’s supposed to be 32°, but it’s actually 37°, and it was supposed to have started snowing a half hour or is ago. The radar shows the weather coming, but it also looks like it might slip up to the north of us.

I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I heard/read it's veered north, good for SC and most of NC.

Warmed all the way up to 9° here, and it was sunny today which was nice to see.
