EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I have a question. Will pullet eggs have smaller air sacs? They went on lockdown last night and when I candled them some of the air sacs looked small. They are Orpington eggs and ran between 25-35 percent humidity. Thanks, Kevin
pullet eggs tend to have thicker shells then hen eggs. It is typically harder for them to lose weight than a hen egg. It all depends on how much smaller they are. In comparison to the whole egg they should take up roughly a third of the egg during lockdown. Since the egg is actually smaller than a hen egg generally then the air cell will be smaller by comparison. It should still take up about one-third of the egg during lockdown.

They will be relative in size to the size of eggs. In other words, an egg is an egg is an egg. Lots of people swear by not hatching pullet eggs. I myself, have no problems hatching them.

But because it is small the S/V (surface volume ratio) is much bigger so it will loose much more humidity than a bigger egg.

I personally think pullet eggs take shipping better than hen eggs :idunno

Ralphie, are you able to make money on the chicks you sell?

Most of us loose $$ hands down and just do it for fun (well selling them and kidding ourselves that we are actually making $$)

It would be good to hear that someone is successful.
I consider it a hobby I waste money on. If I make enough here and there to cover the cost of some feed, that I'd be buying anyways, I consider it pretty good.
