Yep! And the thing that I found appealing (in addition to being able to fuel them from my pantry in an unexpected outage) is how much safer olive oil lamps are than anything else. Olive oil has a really high flash point, and if the lamp is knocked over it won't start a fire, it'll put itself out. Indeed, to put the lamp out, you just slosh the lamp to douse it with the olive oil. Cool, huh?!

This one has a smaller wick, but I ordered some wider braided wick, which will make it brighter. I also hear that salting the wicks may make them last longer - I might try that.

I hatch mine upright I wonder how much difference that make in the turning of them....  I rely on an auto turner too, if I had to hand turn them they would all die.

I have pretty quiet hens they hardly ever move.....so nananaaaa:bun

They don't stand up and flip them, silly, just subtle shifts to keep them evenly heated. :plbb

Last broody I had in September never moved an eyelash. Ever. Swear the thing was dead. Hatched 8 of 10.

I would say yes but the anally retentive OCD sufferers  (looking at Banti) will disagree with me on that.....

Hey now!! I don't even do hour by hour incubation time charts anymore....

How can you do that and be on a schedule of same time every day?

I do 8, 12, and 8 or 8, 12, 4, 8, and before I hit the sack. So equal amounts of time between turning. Obviously, an hour or two doesn't matter... I'm just saying if you turn every 10 minutes 5 times in the morning and them leave them still for the rest of the day that ain't gonna cut it.

It is cool. Salting as just putting wick into dry salt?
