awesome!! i love fresh syrup
as kids we used to drink it out of the buckets and taste test as it was boiling down

Maple syrup is REALLY good in coffee, make it yourself and you can afford to put it in your coffee :-D
So darn time consuming though boiling boiling boiling. .. :-(
One of those rewards you really have to work for.

That 'Help!!!' post wasn't the one with the pipped call duck early that turned out to be a chick was it? Now that would be shocking! The ugly duckling for sure :-D

no, not that one, but that one was great!

Scary funny syrup story. Yrs ago when we lived up behind the in-laws I had a bunch of chickens in their barn, had put a light above the water pan to keep it thawed out and keep them laying, looked out the window down towards the barn late one night and my heart stopped, swore, DW asks 'what!?'
I caught your dad's barn on fire!!
Ohh, I run down there so fast heart still stopped. ..
FIL was about 50yrds further away by his wood pile in the dark with the door open on one of those small boxwood stoves stoking the fire boiling sap...
Scared me so bad, he laughed. .
I unplugged that light and never used one again. Rather bust ice and let the girls take a break in the winter if they want. :-D

Quote: His comb and wattles had this weird scaly look to them, a few patches as well, and I know (rarely) combs can get mites - also, he's lost a couple points (I think he has some poor circulation). The castor oil helps with scaly leg mites as well as general healing, but is also apparently great for frostbite prevention as well. @Beekissed swears by it. I use the "Home Health" brand from the drug store - all natural and no petroleum stuff or hexane in it. The vet suggested NOT using castor oil because birds are so sensitive to toxins, and I think he may have been worried about a "less clean" formulation.
See his comb here? (Pre-foot injury)

No, it was someone who started an eggtospy and found a live chick after getting part of the shell off, and didn't know how to proceed to try to save it.

Lights at night freak me out too

@casportpony I found this chart in goat stuff, but have not had time to check it. If you have time, since you like this stuff would you look at it?

We found this dosage conversion chart very handy for treating our goats.”

1 ml = 15 drops = 1 cc
1 tsp. = 1 gram = 5 cc’s
1 tbsp. = ½ oz. = 15 cc’s
2 tbsp. = 1 oz. = 30 cc’s
1 pint = 16 oz. = 480 cc’s
The drops thing really depends on the dropper and the type of liquid. Last I checked I think one drop of 100 mg/ml Baytril from a 1 ml syringe = ~0.02 ml, and I think injectable ivermectin and Corid are about the same. I will verify later.

The teaspoon and tablespoon thing... 1 tsp. = 5 grams = 5 cc’s, and 1 tbsp. = ½ oz (~15 grams) = 15 cc’s is *true* for water, but is not true for powders. One tsp of most powders will weigh 2.5 to 3.7 grams, it all depends on density and the accuracy of the tsp or tbs. For example, one teaspoon of my Corid powder weighs 3 grams, but one teaspoon of Duramycin 10 weighs 3.3 grams. I will put together a list of powder weights.

Interestingly, did you know that 1 cc of mercury weighs 13.53 grams? That's some heavy stuff!
