EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

But what do you do when you get this???

A degree or two might not make a difference when you are decided whether to wear a jacket or not, but it can make a heck of a difference when you're incubating eggs for 3 weeks. And yes, they were calibrated (they just didn't STAY calibrated) using the ice and water method - well, all except one that I didn't get the plastic bag sealed up well enough and it met an unfortunate demise by drowning. <sigh>

That is completely nutso Blooie!

This is a reasonable way to measure temps..

Besides this way people don't ever see the two basil thermometers inside the case..

Tell me about it!! And folks on under my Blankie Fort wondered why I was so stressed out when I had eggs in the incubators! Notice that the transmitter for all of these are side by side - not one in one room and the others in a different room, but side by side. I went with the two that said the same thing and prayed.

so I am REALLY REALLY starting to get bored with this doing nothing crap.....

crochet  out of the question
sewing out of the question
woodworking  I cant even walk in the garage right now

suggestions?

Get a pencil and paper and draw out coop designs to build when type back up to par (like any of us need more coops lol)
Or find an immersing show or series to binge watch (I recommend the creation series, very intriguing stuff!)

yes   Jess is gonna send me some eggs, and I am sending her some eggs.  We have addiction problems dont we all? :cd

Yes we do. Especially those of us that incubate and have empty space in the bators lol

All girls

Ah, the toad project. I picked up 6 from TSC the other day but they're only a week old and already look exhausted when they walk around. I have a feeling that they camped right next to the food dish the whole time they were there though. I'll be moving them to the bigger brooder soon and the food and water will be as far apart as I possibly can make them move around. IF I can keep them alive long enough, I'll be trying to breed mine too.

make sure to take it up for , or dont fill the food all the way so that they have to go without for hours at a time so that they have to actively 'look' for food

Similar to Toads but I'll be making Hamsters. I got my chicks as day olds so I'm there best friend because I bring food. They always have water but only get fed twice a day and when I feed them I just sprinkle it on the ground so they have to find it and move around. It's pretty funny to watch them running around getting food.

@Auroradream26 If they are a week old from TSC it could be too old to make frogs out of them. They really need to learn to starve 12 hours at a time when young.

Move the water and feed as far apart as you can an only feed them for 15-20 minutes twice a day. They will not starve to death and you need to slow them down,,,

Good luck!
